Ho Chi Minh City is about to have more gas charging stations for CNG buses.

The Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center said that in the near future, the unit will invest in 3 more CNG fuel charging stations to ensure enough charging stations for 496 buses.

According to the center, Ho Chi Minh City currently has 2,043 buses operating on 127 routes, of which 1,547 buses use diesel fuel and 496 buses use CNG (gas) fuel.

However, in the city, up to now there are only 3 CNG filling stations for buses, with a capacity to serve 180 buses/day.

The CNG fuel station system is too small and inconvenient for refueling.

At the same time, the long refueling time affects the operation of the fleet.

In addition, buses using CNG fuel are also facing some difficulties and problems, such as the only unit, Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company, investing in the filling station and deciding the selling price of CNG fuel.

Therefore, fuel supply is dependent on this enterprise.

Therefore, transport businesses also limit investment in CNG buses due to their higher price compared to buses using diesel fuel.

To encourage businesses to invest in vehicles using CNG fuel, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has assigned the Public Transport Management Center to study the demand for buses using CNG and the demand for CNG charging stations to provide appropriate support.
