Colonel Bui Thanh Truc, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, emphasized: “In the era of global connectivity, the Internet opens up endless spaces for learning and creativity, but also carries many potential risks, especially for children and teenagers, the most active but vulnerable user group. The campaign 'Not alone - Together online safety' was launched to spread the message: In cyberspace, no one has to face life alone.”

According to a report by the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention ( Ministry of Public Security ), in 2023, the authorities recorded 1,500 cases of online fraud; by 2024, this number had doubled, with 22,200 reports and damages of up to VND 18,900 billion, double that of 2023 (about VND 8,000 - 10,000 billion).

Notably, 70% of Vietnamese people said they had been exposed to at least one scam text message or call every month, and at least one in 10 smartphone users had become a “potential victim” of cybercrime.

From that reality, the campaign "Not alone - Together online safety" is considered an important step in prevention, education and raising public awareness, especially in the school environment.

The program is part of the "Not Alone" initiative initiated by the Digital Trust Alliance, under the auspices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the accompaniment of the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health and technology corporations such as TikTok, Meta, and Google.

Ms. Huynh Le Nhu Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City shared: “School is not only a place to impart knowledge but also an environment to educate life skills and digital values. We hope that through this campaign, students will know how to identify, react and protect themselves from online manipulation, fraud or kidnapping.”

Integrating digital safety education into the curriculum and extracurricular activities will help form a “culture of responsible internet use”. Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will closely coordinate with the City Police, media agencies and technology enterprises to build a safe, friendly and transparent school ecosystem in cyberspace.

At the launching ceremony, students participated in the topic "Identifying and preventing online kidnapping crimes" presented by a reporter from the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Ho Chi Minh City Police.

The reporter introduced hypothetical situations of seduction via social networks, installing malware, and faking information of students, parents, or teachers to appropriate property, tricks that are becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeting young people.
Along with the main program, the experience booths and interactive workshops of TikTok, Google, Meta, and the National Cyber Security Association also attracted a large number of students. The hands-on instruction activities helped young people learn how to set up account security, identify harmful content, and share safely on social networks.

"Online fraud spares no one and is spreading invisible fear in our own homes. Every student today needs to be an 'information gatekeeper', knowing how to protect themselves, protect their friends and together create a safe shield in cyberspace," Ms. Nhu Trang emphasized.

The campaign “Not alone - Together online safety” will be deployed throughout the 2025-2026 school year with many activities such as: digital safety knowledge contest, fake news identification skills class, youth forum with healthy cyberspace, and propaganda video series on social networks.

The event ended with a message echoed by millions of students: “In cyberspace, no one has to face it alone. Together, we are safe!”
