To save time and money, many people rent a car together, leaving on Sunday evening or early Monday morning. About 15 people rent a car together. Some people even have to carry their children to work because there is no one to look after them. The distance is not only geographical but also a journey through unfinished construction sections on Highway 28B, with dusty dirt and rocks. An official from the Department of Justice of Lam Dong province confided: "There are times when I am exhausted, but I still stay because I love my job and want to contribute to serving the people." For convenience, many people rent small rooms near the headquarters, sharing with colleagues. They cook together, gradually adapting to life away from home while their families in the countryside have to fend for themselves.
The difficulties are not only in the roads and distance from home, but also in the differences in management and document processing procedures, but after nearly 3 months of working, many people have gained more experience, especially the very clear inter-sectoral coordination. According to a leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Lam Dong province, the province has implemented a number of measures such as temporary accommodation support and reviewing the learning conditions for children of officials. However, many civil servants, public employees and workers said that the travel and housing support policies are still slow, so they have to rent accommodation and arrange their own means of transport. The Department of Finance of Lam Dong province has developed a plan to repair and upgrade dozens of facilities to serve as accommodation for more than 1,600 officials and public employees coming to work, but due to the urgent time and large workload, some facilities have not been completed yet. National Highway 28B was the shortest route connecting the coastal area with the new administrative center in Lam Dong province before, but is being renovated so it is difficult to travel. Officials and civil servants hope the project will be completed soon to ensure the health of those who work far away and want to be supported with social housing and transportation to soon "settle down and have a happy life".
On Friday afternoons at the corners of the pine-covered streets of Da Lat, the officials who “leave on Monday morning and return on Friday afternoon” quietly put on their backpacks and get on the bus to return home. Their lives are like shuttling between the two ends of the sea and the mountains, but their love for their jobs is still steadfast to keep the administrative apparatus running and serving the people.
