On August 12, the Green Wind Choir announced that it will organize an annual choir program with the theme “ Colors of the Wind”. With this year’s theme, Green Wind wants to take the audience on a musical journey where colors are not only visual pigments but also symbols for the emotional levels of the soul, for the diversity, combination and constant movement of sound.
"The Colors of the Wind" is inspired by the magical transformation of colors in painting, where a green can become bright or calm depending on the light, time of day and each person's perspective. Like green - a familiar color that seems simple - but if observed carefully, green under different lights has many shades: bright green at dawn, pure green at noon, quiet moss green at sunset or deep dark green at night. The human soul is not immutable.
Likewise, each voice in a choir is a distinct color, a distinct personality; it is the combination, interaction and mutual understanding that creates the final beauty – not of similarity, but of harmony in diversity. From contrast to harmony, from whispering to soaring, those sounds will touch the listener's emotions with delicacy and sincerity.
With the theme “Colors of the Wind” of this year’s annual concert, it is not only a story of sound but also a journey of discovering each person’s inner self. Each voice in the Green Wind Choir may be different but not separate, but are interwoven together. That diversity is not only in emotions but also clearly expressed through the musical genres in this year’s program.
The organizers said that from classic works of classical music and Western musicals such as: Nessun Dorma (Opera – Puccini), The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, The Sound of Music (Musical) to the childhood soundtrack of Doraemon, and also vibrant contemporary music such as Imagine (Pop), Rolling in the Deep (Rock), Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen (Funk/Disco – ABBA), Catch a Falling Star (Jazz), and Vietnamese revolutionary music: Choral Suite Reminiscences (composer Hoang Van).
The program is also an opportunity for Gio Xanh to affirm its artistic personality - a young choir, diverse in members and vocal colors, but always united in the passion for dedication and spreading choir.
Choir conductor Nguyen Hai Yen shared: “The Colors of the Wind” is not only a theme of this year’s concert, but also an affirmation of honoring differences, promoting coordination and always striving to practice towards beauty in each sound. The group hopes that the annual concerts will be one of the autumn cultural destinations of the capital Hanoi .”
A special highlight of the program is the annual participation and companionship of audiences from social protection centers, especially children and teenagers in difficult circumstances. This is a deeply humane activity, expressing the desire to spread the love of music to all people in society, especially those souls who need support and sharing.
The program takes place on two nights, October 18 and 19, at the Grand Concert Hall - Vietnam National Academy of Music, 77 Hao Nam, Hanoi, promising to be a cultural destination not to be missed in the fall of 2025 in the capital Hanoi.
Founded in September 2019, the Green Wind Choir started with about 80 members ranging in age from 6 to 81. By 2025, the community had grown to more than 200 members, ranging from 6 to 86 years old, regardless of background, profession, religion or gender – as long as they had a love for choir.
Green Wind is the first community choir in Vietnam to organize its own concerts – an annual event that has become a cultural destination that the public looks forward to. By the end of 2024, Green Wind had organized 12 non-profit concerts in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ha Long, Hue, welcoming about 1,800 children and teenagers from social protection centers – of which more than 140 children directly stood on stage with the choir.
