Sketches by students of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Sciences , Hue University |
Art lovers in general and painting, especially sketching, were very surprised to see the sketches of students of the Faculty of Architecture (University of Sciences, Hue University) on the theme "Hue, past and present".
As part of the series of activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of the faculty taking place in mid-September with many events, the sketching contest has become a highlight, truly attracting those who visit the exhibition space. Heritage and architecture of Hue are very familiar sketching topics, receiving the attention of many artists and art students. Therefore, there are quite a few exhibitions on this topic, but "Hue, past and present" still has its own uniqueness, blending the uniqueness of the perspective of architecture students with artistic talent in each stroke.
Standing in front of the painting of Thien Mu Pagoda, viewers cannot help but be overwhelmed by the author's love for Hue's heritage when Phuoc Duyen tower, which is ancient and majestic from the outside, becomes even more magnificent when sketched. Looking closely at the work, you can see thousands of pencil dots, all blending together to create an impressive masterpiece in the eyes of the viewer. Next to it are many sketches of other famous heritage architectural works of Hue such as Ngu Phung Tower, Phu Van Lau, Ky Dai, Tinh Tam Lake, Khai Dinh Tomb, Dieu De Pagoda, Truong Tien Bridge... Modern architectural works such as Phu Cam Cathedral, Hue Railway Station, and even the brand new Phu Bai International Airport.
Although different in subject, time and space of sketches, one can see the harmony and passionate love for Hue in the flow of time, associated with the beauty of culture, history and the urbanization process.
Le Ba Phuoc - one of the students of the Faculty of Architecture (University of Sciences, Hue University) brought to the exhibition space a drawing of the Ngu Phung tower above the Ngo Mon Gate of Hue. Many people were curious and asked why Phuoc did not sketch the current Ngu Phung tower, but instead "went back in time" to draw this building during a period of deterioration many years ago.
This student said that he had studied very carefully about the architectural work considered one of the symbols of Hue. To have an intact work like today, Ngu Phung tower had to go through ups and downs, historical events and harsh weather of the land leading to degradation before being restored. Therefore, he wanted to tell that story as a reminder of the memories and efforts of future generations in joining hands to preserve the heritage.
Phuoc created this work based on a photograph of Ngu Phung Tower in its dilapidated state, supported by a scaffolding system but still majestic. “Through this work, I want to promote the responsibility of future generations in preserving and restoring the cultural heritage values that our ancestors left behind. Hopefully, not only Ngu Phung Tower but many other typical architectural works of Hue in general will be revived,” Phuoc confided.
Among many works on the theme of architecture and heritage on display, one of the works that stands out for its novelty and modernity is the sketch of Phu Bai International Airport.
Student Le Phuoc Nguyen, the author of this work, shared honestly that Hue heritage has impressed many people so he wanted to sketch one of the modern architectural works. And Phu Bai International Airport, an architectural work that has been awarded many architectural awards, was the first idea that Nguyen thought of.
“I had to go back and forth several times to look and find inspiration to sketch. It is truly a modern work but still based on ancient architectural ideas, so it creates a highlight and changes the appearance of Hue,” Nguyen said, happy when everyone highly appreciated the idea of conceiving the work.
Just like that, behind each sketch of future architects is a story, a thought and a wish, but above all, the good feelings they send to the land where they were born or came to study.
