Controversy over iPhone 17 launch date leaves users disappointed with "old wine in new bottles"

(Dan Tri) - Contrary to expectations of a super product, a wave of controversy quickly broke out with many opinions expressing disappointment about the design and claiming that Apple's new features are essentially just "old wine in new bottles".

On the morning of September 19, the first iPhone 17s officially reached Vietnamese users.

Many people are disappointed with the design

The common point in many initial reviews is the disappointment in the appearance of the iPhone 17 series. Mr. Manh Hung ( Hanoi ), a user who upgraded from an old model, said that although he was impressed with the camera quality and the strange cosmic orange color, he was still disappointed.

"The design disappointed me, especially the rear camera cluster that stretches across the back, creating the feeling that the phone is strangely layered," he shared.

Sharing the same opinion, user Anh Quan frankly commented after getting used to the steel and titanium materials on previous generations: "Holding this one feels a bit "aluminum plastic", too light, does not give a luxurious, sturdy feeling. The orange color is also not as bright as the advertised image but is a bit dark when held in hand".

Anh Quan also pointed out a series of other disadvantages in the design: "The entire camera protrudes, causing the device to be wobbly when placed face down. The back also has many corners, causing discomfort when put in a pocket. The plating on the aluminum edge is also prone to scratches, reminding me of previous regular iPhone versions like the XR."

However, amidst the criticism, there are still bright spots to be noted. Mr. Quan noted that the camera of the device has better light capture and detail.

Meanwhile, for many female users, the appeal of the Apple brand and small improvements are still enough to convince.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong said: "I was very impressed with the iPhone Air model because it was so thin. However, I still chose the iPhone 17 Pro Max because I love the orange color. The original design may be a bit strange, but I am satisfied with what Apple has brought."

Besides the design, the features that Apple promotes as "new" also do not satisfy demanding users.

"The feature of recording video with both the front and rear cameras at the same time has been available on many Android devices for a long time. In addition, the camera only has 4x optical zoom, not 8x as expected, which is quite sad," said Mr. Thanh Phong.

Waiting for the folding screen

The lack of real breakthroughs on the iPhone 17 has caused many people to decide to "turn around" right at the experience session. Instead of paying a deposit, they choose to continue waiting for a more revolutionary version, especially the long-rumored foldable iPhone.

Mr. Nguyen Thinh, who is using iPhone 15 Pro Max, shared: "I wanted to upgrade, but after experiencing the iPhone 17, I was not satisfied because there were not many outstanding new features. Hopefully next year Apple will launch a folding screen, and that will be when I decide to buy."

It can be seen that the iPhone 17 series, although still has a certain appeal, has not been able to create an explosive fever like previous generations. Now, users' expectations are focused on a more distant future, where Apple is expected to bring a real breakthrough instead of just small upgrades.
