Currently, there are 7 veteran artists from many fields of theater living at the Ho Chi Minh City Artists' Retirement Home.

In fact, over the years, People's Artist Kim Cuong has organized many activities to take care of elderly, lonely artists and senior artists living in the District 8 Artist Nursing Home.

Her "Soulmate Artist" program has been held for 9 years, 2023 will be the 10th year, in which the list always gives priority to senior artists living at the District 8 Artist Nursing Home.

Thi Nghe Nursing Home has 15 residential areas, 14 of which are currently in use. The residential area planned for 7 artists is located in the back, in the middle of a cool green garden and near the hall, where there is a performance stage, where socialized units often bring in art programs to perform for special audiences here.

People in the industry believe that in 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association needs to quickly review and add to the list of artists who have made many contributions to the country's literature and arts, but still have to live in rented houses at the end of their lives, such as: People's Artist Hung Minh, Meritorious Artist To Kim Hong, writer Mac Can, artist Huynh Thanh Tra, musician Phung Trong (drummer of the Kim Cuong Drama Troupe)... to the list of artists who will be cared for at Thi Nghe Nursing Home.

Authorities need to soon have appropriate policies and mechanisms so that veteran artists who are having difficulty finding housing can move to live at Thi Nghe Nursing Home.

The artist retirement home is located on Au Duong Lan Street, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. The project was built in 1996 and is the residence of many famous artists such as: Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Huong, artist Thien Kim, artist Ngoc Dang, artist Le Tham... Currently, many people have passed away, but there are still 7 artists living here, including: Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien, Le Tham, Ngoc Dang, Hoa Trang, Ngoc Be, Ms. Xuan (costume specialist), Lam Son.

According to People's Artist Kim Cuong, the housing area for 7 artists has 2 floors, including 10 rooms. So there are still 3 rooms available, hoping that soon there will be more veteran artists with housing difficulties who will be moved here, so that they can have a decent place to live to welcome the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin.

"At Thi Nghe Nursing Home, artists will be served 3 meals a day, cared for by a medical team on duty, and have regular health checks.

Previously, at the District 8 Artist Nursing Home, artists were only provided with accommodation and very limited food, mainly thanks to donations from philanthropists, and medical care had to be supported by the District 8 Nursing Home.

"The project to merge the Artist Nursing Home and Thi Nghe Nursing Home, the new facility is being proposed to be named Ho Chi Minh City Artist Nursing Home" - People's Artist Kim Cuong said.
