Vietnam will meet Iraq at My Dinh Stadium in the second round of Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. In the opening match, Vietnam won 2-0 away to the Philippines, while Iraq defeated visiting team Indonesia 5-1.

The match was refereed by Qatari Abdulla Al-Marri. In Iraq's opening match against Indonesia, the referee was also Arab Ahmed Eisa (UAE).

Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers has four teams, including Iraq, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The teams play a round robin, scoring points, and selecting the top two teams to advance to the third round. The third round of the qualifiers consists of 18 teams, divided into three groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing directly to the World Cup finals. The third and fourth-placed teams in each group in the third round of the qualifiers will continue to the fourth round of the qualifiers to compete for two more spots. The two teams with the third and fourth best records in the fourth round of the qualifiers will compete in the fifth round, to select the team that will compete for a play-off spot with a representative from another federation. The play-off spot consists of six teams, selecting two teams to advance to the finals.
