On October 4, Hanoi National University held a ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the General Specialization and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences (KHTN). Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony. Also attending the event were leaders of the Office of the President, the Office of the Government , leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology, central and local agencies...
At the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Director of Hanoi National University, said that exactly 60 years ago, on September 14, 1965, amidst the bombs and bullets of war, at the evacuation area in Thai Nguyen, the first special Math class of the General Math Specialization Block with 38 students was officially opened.
This was not only the birth of a pioneering educational model, but also the sowing of the first seeds for a "talent training" model. From this exemplary model, a series of specialized schools and specialized classes across the country were later formed and developed.

From this school, many poor and excellent students from the countryside have realized their dream of becoming scientists to contribute to the country, a place that nurtures talents to later become excellent officials and leaders in agencies from central to local levels, as well as leading scientists at universities, research institutes, and successful managers and businessmen in large corporations and enterprises..., people who have been affirming Vietnamese intelligence and mettle, making important contributions to the development of the country.
“To have a school and a prestigious and branded education and training model for the Faculty of Natural Sciences today is thanks to the attention and close guidance of the Party and the State, from the very first days with the far-sighted vision of the late Professor Ta Quang Buu and the late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong. We are grateful for the dedicated and enthusiastic contributions of generations of teachers, especially teachers like Professor Le Van Thiem and Professor Hoang Tuy who built and proposed the first idea to establish the school,” said Director of the Hanoi National University Hoang Minh Son.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long warmly commended and congratulated the outstanding achievements of generations of teachers and students of the General Science and Technology High School over the past 60 years, making practical contributions to the cause of industrialization, modernization, construction and development of the country.
From only having 1 specialized Math class with 38 students, the school has now developed with 5 specialized blocks and more than 1,800 students; many generations of students of the school have won many medals and awards at national and international levels; many generations of students of the General Science and Natural Science have become excellent scientists, successful businessmen, contributing their efforts and intelligence to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that recently, the Politburo has issued many important and breakthrough policies, including Resolution No. 57 on science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, and Resolution No. 71, continuing to affirm the view that education and training is the top national policy; identifying high-quality human resources and scientific and technological talents as the driving force and competitive advantage of the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the school to continue to implement well the proposed development orientations, and at the same time strongly innovate the educational model in a broad and deep direction (both creating conditions for students to access high-quality education and encouraging and nurturing exceptionally excellent students); flexibly integrating parallel activities to educate the tradition of patriotism, pride, history and culture of the nation; continue to diversify activities to nurture talents through scientific research, innovation, sports, arts and career orientation activities, focusing on personality education for students.
Teachers of the school need to continue to promote the glorious 60-year tradition and achievements; always keep the flame of love for the profession; accompany and create for students a good environment to study and practice on the journey to maturity and conquer the peak.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long advised students to always be proud to study and train at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences; to try hard, study and train diligently, prepare for adulthood, start a career, become scientists, doctors, engineers, managers, entrepreneurs, contributing to the development of the country in the new era.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi National University, and the University of Natural Sciences to research and find solutions to innovate the model of specialized high schools in a broad and deep direction, creating a basis and foundation for the system of specialized high schools to develop; research and develop a project to discover, train and foster young Vietnamese talents; nurture and train talents from high school to doctoral level; prioritize investment of resources and adequate funding to upgrade facilities, learning equipment, laboratories, and functional room systems for the High School for Natural Sciences to be worthy of the No. 1 high school in the country; have mechanisms and policies to recognize and honor teachers and students who have achieved outstanding achievements.
At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences; the First Class Labor Medal to the Department of Physics - High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences and the Third Class Labor Medal to the Department of Mathematics - High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences.
At the ceremony, amidst the thunderous applause of generations of students, Mr. Nguyen Vu Luong, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, was moved to share that one special thing is that since its establishment in 1965 until now, through many stages of development, the General Specialized Block and the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences have not received much investment and there have not been many special preferential policies for training excellent students. But both teachers and students are still very happy, because the school "still achieves the highest results in the country and has the most successful students".
According to Mr. Nguyen Vu Luong, the school has 4 pillars of success: The first pillar is that it is a school with many good teachers such as the late Professor, Doctor of Science Le Van Thiem, Professor Hoang Tuy, Associate Professor, Doctor of Science Phan Duc Chinh, Professor, Doctor of Science Hoang Huu Duong, Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Duy Tien, teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang...
The second pillar - students with good abilities, that is students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences won 249/770 medals nationwide in international competitions, accounting for 32% of the total number of medals of each country, including 79/198 gold medals. Notably, Vietnam has 10 students participating in the International Math Olympiad with perfect scores of 42/42, of which 6 are students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences; there are 9 Vietnamese students who won 2 consecutive gold medals in the International Math Olympiad, of which 6 are students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences.
Ngo Quy Dang, a student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, is the only 10th grader to win an international math gold medal; Vo Hoang Hai, a student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, is also the only 10th grader in Vietnam to win an international physics gold medal, and is one of six Vietnamese students to win two consecutive international physics gold medals.
The third pillar is that the school has an advanced training program and a scientific and effective way of organizing and managing education. The fourth pillar is tradition when many generations of students of the General High School for the Gifted have created a good tradition such as Professor Ngo Bao Chau - Fields Medal in 2010, the first Vietnamese mathematician to win this noble award; Professor Dam Thanh Son - Dirac Prize in 2018 of the International Center for Theoretical Physics ICTP...
