On the morning of September 5, Kim Dong Primary School (Tu Mo Rong commune, Quang Ngai province) held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2025 - 2026 in a warm, simple but meaningful atmosphere.

A special feature of this year's opening ceremony is the piggy bank fundraising activity to cook free lunches and support poor and orphaned students who are not boarding students.

Early in the morning, in front of the opening ceremony podium, a small piggy bank was placed solemnly to receive the hearts of teachers, parents, students and local leaders. One by one, each child, teacher and parent put their savings and instant noodles into the piggy bank to share. Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Chairman of Tu Mo Rong Commune People's Committee, and many commune officials also participated in contributing right at the ceremony.

Student A Nhat Thien Hung (class 5A1) expressed: "I think raising a piggy bank to raise funds is a meaningful thing to do, helping people in difficult circumstances. I also participate in supporting, although not much, but it is my heart."

According to Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Van, Principal of Kim Dong Primary School, the school currently has 707 students with 46 staff members, teachers and employees. Due to the distance from home, many students who are not boarders often skip afternoon classes because they have to go home for lunch. For the past 5 years, to overcome this situation, the school has maintained a free kitchen and has also taken care of orphans and students with special needs from Monday to Friday every week.

"This school year, the school plans to cook free lunch for 74 students at Kon Pia school and directly raise 30 orphaned and disadvantaged students. The funding for maintaining operations over the years has mainly come from contributions from teachers, fundraising from selling pigs and chickens, and support from benefactors. To have more resources, we launched the campaign right at the opening ceremony, hoping that every sharing, no matter how small, will help the children have more full meals and feel secure in studying," Ms. Van shared.

Highly appreciating this activity, Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong Commune (Quang Ngai Province), said that the school's act of taking poor and orphaned students home to raise and cook free lunches is a humane gesture, contributing to improving the quality of education . This is a model that needs to be replicated so that non-boarding students also have more opportunities to attend school regularly.
