30 years of passion for the profession

In the Television industry in Long An , few people can film and write at the same time like journalist Vo Van Huy. Chatting with him over a morning coffee, we understand that it comes from passion and relentless effort.

Journalist Vo Van Huy can both film and write scripts, thanks to his passion for the profession and his constant efforts and hard work.

After being discharged from the army, he made a living by taking photos and filming . In 1995, he started working at Long An Radio and Television Station (now Long An Radio and Television Newspaper). Despite many difficulties, with the spirit of learning and support from colleagues, he quickly adapted and produced quality works.

In 1997, the work Living with the Flood (co-produced with writer Diep Vam Co) won the Silver Medal at the National Television Festival. In 2000 and 2001, also at this Film Festival , he continued to win 2 Silver Medals.

Since working at the station, journalist Vo Van Huy has practiced writing scripts. After working with colleagues at the agency, he read more books and researched many documents to improve his writing. For him, there is no concept of days off; when others are off, he works. He admits that he is not good at it, he just works hard and diligently.

According to him, no matter how much the cameraman and the editor understand each other, they cannot be in sync emotionally. The reason for missing images or writing is also due to this. Therefore, if one person can combine filming and writing, the above shortcomings can be overcome.

According to journalist Vo Van Huy, to have a quality film, there needs to be a combination of people and modern technology. No matter how good a journalist is, if the equipment is outdated, the film will not be good. No matter how modern the equipment is, if the journalist is inattentive, superficial, and weak in the profession, it is useless. For writing, journalists need to read a lot to cultivate and improve their vocabulary, and need a lot of life experience to write in depth.

For journalist Vo Van Huy, he reads a lot but selectively. When he comes across a topic, he researches it very carefully and reads many related documents. This takes a lot of time and effort but gives him a solid foundation for the following topics.

If you love journalism, invest seriously, just try and make your best effort, you will definitely be rewarded accordingly.

At 60 years old and 30 years in the profession, journalist Vo Van Huy has experienced many emotions. There was joy, sadness, elation, disappointment, but he considered all of those things as the flavor of life, material for his works. “Journalism has given me so many things. I wonder, if I hadn’t been a journalist, would I be where I am today?” - journalist Vo Van Huy said.

Thanks to his journalism, he was able to go to Truong Sa, a remote archipelago that even with money, he was not sure he could go to; he met many people, witnessed many things to understand more deeply and love his homeland and country more.

To his young colleagues, he said that he did not dare to teach anyone but was always willing to share and exchange. “If you love journalism, invest seriously, just try and make your best effort, you will definitely be rewarded accordingly” - journalist Vo Van Huy advised.

“The profession taught me to grow up”

Huynh Thi Thuy Phuong is a young journalist, always full of passion for her profession. She said that since she was in junior high school, she idolized the reporters who led the scene in the 7 p.m. news program every day. However, when she was at the threshold of university, she temporarily put that love aside when she chose to study a major that was considered "hot" at that time. As a fate with the profession, although she studied in a different major, after graduating, she collaborated and applied for Long An Newspaper (now Long An Radio and Television Station), starting her journey with journalism.

For journalist Huynh Thi Thuy Phuong (right cover), journalism has helped her mature.

For her, her time as a journalist was a brilliant journey. The job gave her the opportunity to travel to many places, meet many people and learn many lessons. Thanks to her work as a journalist, she was able to travel to all the localities in the province, clearly knowing the specialties, characteristics, culture, and relics of each place and became even more proud of her hometown.

Assigned to monitor the cultural and social sector, she was given the opportunity to participate in reporting on festivals and cultural and artistic events in the province, learn about historical relics and cultural heritages, and approach artisans and artists of her home province. From there, she understood and was even more proud of her hometown.

Each meeting and interview is a time for her to learn a lesson from the characters. They are shining examples of optimism, love of life, and effort in work and life.

Talking about her memorable memories, journalist Thuy Phuong said: “Once, I met Master Nguyen Hoang An. He was a young, talented person with a bright future, but an accident left him unable to walk. Overcoming the great shock of his life, he became a book author, an inspiration and collaborated with many newspapers and radio stations across the country. The article about him brought me and my colleagues a journalism award. It was a great joy, but most of all, I learned from him the spirit of never giving up and the belief that other doors will open when this door closes.”

Not only did she learn from the character, she also received a lot of help and support from her colleagues and superiors. The experiences accumulated during her work were enthusiastically taught by her seniors, helping her avoid stumbling blocks and difficulties at work. With her efforts, in 2025, journalist Thuy Phuong won 2 Encouragement Prizes at the Dien Hong Award and the Mekong Delta Press Award .

After more than 10 years of working as a journalist, I see myself as a profitable person! I am more mature, stronger, more disciplined and importantly, I know how to love and appreciate my homeland and the people around me more.
