Ha Long Bay has countless endemic plant species and beautiful flowers, which are being preserved, maintained and propagated by the governing body to create a beautiful space and attractive tourist landscape.
According to research and evaluation by scientists , Ha Long Bay is one of the best models of high concentration of tropical limestone island ecosystems and marine ecosystems. Also according to statistics, Ha Long Bay is one of the areas with the highest concentration of biological species in Vietnam with over 3,000 species of flora and fauna. Among them, there are many rare species and especially endemic species that are only found in Ha Long Bay. Many of them are plant species and flowers with high aesthetic value, with great potential in beautifying the landscape and serving tourism.
Participating in surveys and research trips, experts all highly appreciated the diversity, richness and value of the flora of Ha Long Bay. Dr. Le Hong Truong, Director of the Southern Institute of Ecology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), once commented: Ha Long Bay possesses a real "treasure" with a diverse ecosystem. These values can be preserved and promoted, not only to increase the value but also to serve tourism exploitation, creating a unique attraction from the inherent natural value of Ha Long Bay.
In recent times, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has had many research topics, breeding and planting of plants to preserve and promote the value associated with the landscape of destinations in Ha Long Bay. Accordingly, many endemic plants and beautiful flowers have been initially researched and cultivated at the Provincial Center for Agricultural Forestry Science and Production (Minh Thanh Ward, Quang Yen Town), then bred and planted en masse.
The first project was the conservation and planting of endemic plants of Ha Long palm in 2009. Ha Long palm was successfully propagated by seeds and planted 100 seedlings for conservation in Cat Lan. Up to now, the palm trees are still growing well, adapting to the natural environment. Recently, the unit has continuously paid attention to implementing conservation zoning and regularly monitoring the most planted areas, such as: Tam Cung, Hang Trong, Trinh Nu, Cat Lan...
Since May 2016, spotted slipper orchid - a precious genetic resource with beautiful flowers has also been successfully propagated by separation and cutting. Accordingly, this beautiful flower is grown in Cong Dam, Cua Van. At the same time, the Board also cares about preserving, caring for, and protecting this flower species at locations distributed in the Bay. Thanks to that, up to now, many locations of slipper orchids still grow well, giving beautiful, brilliant flowers in season.
As a tree with large fruit clusters, beautiful colors, and good decoration for the landscape, cotton tree was successfully propagated from seeds in 2012. Thanks to proactive seedling source creation, the unit has multiplied about 2,000 trees through projects and early spring plantings.
Most of the trees grow well and adapt to natural conditions. Places where they are planted a lot are: Thien Cung, Dau Go, Ti Top, Sung Sot, Me Cung, Tien Ong, Hang Co, Nui Luot... and later they continued to be planted in: Bai Dong, Me Cung, Van Boi. Most of the trees grow well, in many places like Bai Dong, Ti Top, Dau Go... the trees bloom and produce many beautiful fruits.
Not only that, the Ha Long Bay Management Board is also interested in preserving and promoting the value of Cycads, corals and many other aesthetically valuable plants. It is expected that in November 2025, the endemic Cycads of Ha Long will be propagated and planted on trial; and detailed surveys and assessments will be conducted at 18 coral reef sites in Ha Long Bay...
With these efforts, the landscape of many destinations and tourist routes has been beautified and made more brilliant. When traveling to Ha Long Bay in the summer, visitors will see large clusters of yellow palm flowers blooming on the islands, and admire clusters of white cotton flowers growing from the mountainside with beautiful, large red fruits. When kayaking along the rocky islands, visitors will admire the beautiful yellow slipper orchids blooming on the cliffs...
