This year's IMSO competition had 23 teams with 400 students participating, taking place from October 5 to 9 at Al-Bukhary International University, Kedah. The Math exam revolved around 5 topics including arithmetic, geometry, data and measurement, probability and statistics, and recreational mathematics. Meanwhile, the Science exam covered 16 topics, from human health to energy sources and the solar system. The main language of the competition was English.

IMSO is an annual competition for students aged 13 and under to promote intellectual capacity and interest in STEM. The competition was initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2003, when it was called AMSO - ASEAN Mathematics and Science Olympiad. Vietnam has sent students to participate since 2014.

Last year, the 21st IMSO was held in Wenzhou, China, attracting nearly 300 contestants from 18 delegations. The Vietnamese team came second, after Singapore. All Vietnamese students won prizes, including 9 gold medals. The 2026 IMSO competition will take place in Indonesia.
