According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the signing ceremony of the joint communique establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Tuvalu took place at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York on September 24.
Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Tuvalu's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Labour and Trade Paulson Panapa signed a joint communiqué on establishing relations between the two countries.
With this joint statement, Vietnam became one of the few countries in the world to establish diplomatic relations with 193/193 United Nations member countries.
After the signing ceremony, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Labour and Trade of Tuvalu Paulson Panapa discussed orientations to promote relations in the coming time.
In which, the two sides affirmed that the signing of the joint communique on establishing diplomatic relations is a historic milestone, laying the foundation for cooperative relations between the two countries.
The two ministers agreed to continue discussions to promote specific cooperation activities in areas where both sides have potential, such as marine economy, tourism, and education. The two sides will closely coordinate at multilateral forums of which both countries are members.
On this occasion, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung invited Minister of Foreign Affairs, Labour and Trade of Tuvalu Paulson Panapa to visit Vietnam.
Tuvalu is a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Accordingly, the British King is the head of state, represented by the Governor-General, and the Prime Minister is the head of government.
Tuvalu has a small economy that is vulnerable to climate change. Economic activities are mainly based on fishing, especially tuna, and food crop cultivation.
The island nation is a member of the United Nations, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Commonwealth of Nations and several Pacific Rim organizations.
Before establishing diplomatic relations with Vietnam, Tuvalua had diplomatic relations with 123 countries, including 6 ASEAN countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
Denmark promotes green business investment in Vietnam
Also on September 24 in New York, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Denmark currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union until December 31, 2025.
At the meeting, Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two sides continue to promote cooperation in priority areas, especially green transformation and sustainable development. He also hoped that Denmark would continue to support and encourage the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement, as well as urge the European Commission to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood.
Affirming that Vietnam is one of Denmark's leading partners in Southeast Asia, the Danish Foreign Minister expressed his admiration for Vietnam's economic achievements and highly appreciated Vietnam's development policy.
On this occasion, Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen thanked Vietnam for facilitating the operation of the LEGO factory in Vietnam and affirmed that he would encourage Danish businesses to increase investment in Vietnam, especially in the field of green transformation.
