Vietnam always stands side by side to help Laos fulfill its international responsibilities in 2024.

That was the affirmation of President Vo Van Thuong when receiving Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the afternoon of January 6 at the Presidential Palace.

At the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his pleasure to meet Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone again on the occasion of the Prime Minister leading a high-ranking delegation of the Lao Government paying an official visit to Vietnam and co-chairing the 46th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee; expressing his belief that Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone's official visit to Vietnam this time will create a new momentum, bringing about substantial results commensurate with the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; affirming that the Party and State of Vietnam always give the highest priority to the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

The Head of State of Vietnam highly appreciated the important achievements that the Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the direction and administration of the Lao Government have achieved in recent times; expressed his belief that Laos will continue to achieve many new achievements in socio-economic development; continue to successfully build a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic and prosperous Laos; and have an increasingly high position in the region and the world.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam for the first time in his new position and to meet again with President Vo Van Thuong; highly appreciated the results of the President's official friendship visit to Laos in April 2023; conveyed the regards of Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith to President Vo Van Thuong; highly appreciated the important achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent years, emphasizing that this is a great source of motivation for Laos to make further efforts in the process of economic development and national construction.

The Lao Prime Minister expressed his belief that, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Vietnamese people will successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period.

Comrade Sonexay Siphandone also emphasized that the Lao Party, State and people always remember and are grateful for Vietnam's wholehearted and sincere assistance to Laos in the past struggle for national independence, as well as in the current cause of national construction, protection and development.

The head of the Lao Government highly appreciated the investment of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos, which has actively contributed to the economic and social development of Laos.

The two sides highly appreciated the strong and comprehensive development of the Vietnam-Laos cooperation in all fields in recent times. The two sides agreed to continue to maintain high-level visits and contacts; effectively implement important agreements between the two Parties and two countries; and promote cooperation in the fields of security, defense and diplomacy.

President Vo Van Thuong and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone agreed to continue to focus on education and propaganda, raising awareness among the people of the two countries, especially the young generation, about the close historical tradition, loyalty and achievements of the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos; at the same time, continuously promote cooperation in other fields such as economics, trade and investment, education, training, tourism; in which, focusing on coordinating and connecting tourism cooperation activities on the basis of Visit Laos Year 2024 and the program "One journey, three destinations".

President Vo Van Thuong stressed that the two sides need to continue promoting the exceptionally good political relationship and closely coordinate to effectively implement cooperation plans and projects to bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam will always stand side by side with Laos to help it fulfill its international responsibilities in 2024, contributing to enhancing Laos' position and maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Through Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, President Vo Van Thuong sent his regards and best wishes to Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and other senior Lao leaders.
