First time giving birth: a sweet, smooth journey

Actor Anh Tuan and his wife chose a family delivery room to accompany each other on their journey of giving birth.

The memory of their first birth is still vivid in the minds of Anh Tuan and Diem Quynh. Two years ago, the actor and his wife happily welcomed their first baby boy at Thu Cuc International General Hospital.

As his wife's companion during the prenatal check-ups until the delivery, the actor shared: "The first time giving birth, everything went very smoothly. My wife's pregnancy was assessed as favorable, so the doctor recommended a natural birth. Because I wanted to be with Quynh during the delivery, I chose the family delivery room. Quynh only spent a few hours in labor and the baby was born healthy."

The opposite experience of the second birth

With the first smooth experience, the actor's family said that both of them were very confident because they thought that everything would go the same. Therefore, the couple continued to choose the normal delivery package. Many people think that if the first normal delivery went smoothly, the second birth will be easier. However, that was not true for Diem Quynh in this birth.

At week 39, Diem Quynh showed signs of abdominal pain and labor in the middle of the night. Immediately, the couple went to the hospital. Similar to the first birth, the actor still chose the family delivery room to accompany his wife during the natural birth process. However, although the doctors tried to support and monitor Quynh for a natural birth, more than 12 hours passed and the cervix did not progress.

Due to the prolonged labor and the lack of cervical development, Dr. Nguyen Van Ha - Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Deputy Director of Thu Cuc TCI International General Hospital, ordered a cesarean section.

Diem Quynh was assigned a cesarean section after many hours of her cervix not opening.

Dr. Ha commented: “The cervix did not progress, causing the mother’s labor to be prolonged. Although the doctors supported a number of interventions to help the labor process go smoothly, the cervix did not progress. Therefore, we decided to perform a cesarean section to ensure the safety of both mother and child.”

Actor Anh Tuan said that he is a person who is easily moved to tears. When he learned that his wife had to undergo surgery and was pushed into a one-way sterile room, but he was not allowed in, he was quite worried and nervous and started crying.

“When I saw me standing outside the operating room, restless and with red eyes, a media staff member of Thu Cuc sent me a clip taken with a phone in the operating room and said that the surgery was going very well, the baby was being taken out, mother and child were healthy, I felt somewhat reassured,” Anh Tuan emotionally shared.

Happiness burst when daughter Yumi was born safely.

After two memorable births, Diem Quynh shared: “The decision to choose Thu Cuc was very wise. Because of my busy work schedule and having a 2-year-old baby, I often forgot about my prenatal check-ups, but luckily the hospital always reminded me of the schedule. The doctors also tried their best to help me give birth naturally and closely monitored me to support timely cesarean section. What impressed me most was the entire birth support team and nurses who always held my hand to encourage me and reassured Tuan when I had to be transferred for cesarean section.”

Why is it easy to give birth naturally the first time, but still have to have a cesarean section the second time?

According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Duc, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Treatment Unit - Thu Cuc TCI: "Each pregnancy has a different birth process. The prognosis of whether a pregnant woman can give birth normally or not depends on many factors such as the mother's general condition, the mother's pelvis, and the weight of the fetus when labor occurs. During the labor monitoring process, factors such as the mother's general condition, the dilation of the cervix, the fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid, and whether the baby's head can be fully dilated or not. If the above factors are favorable, the pregnant woman can give birth normally."

Through their story, Anh Tuan and his wife want to send advice to pregnant mothers: “Giving birth is a special journey. Mothers should prepare themselves mentally and listen to the doctor's advice.”
