With iOS 17, Dynamic Island is still forgotten on iPhone

According to BGR , recent reports say that Apple will equip Dynamic Island for all members of the iPhone 15 that the company will introduce this September. Apple never named the TrueDepth camera system on the iPhone X, what people call the notch, but the company has decided to call the new pill-shaped cutout Dynamic Island with interactive capabilities.

Dynamic Island was "forgotten" by Apple when introducing iOS 17 recently

It was a really interesting idea for Apple to come up with for Dynamic Island, but the fact is that after almost a year, not only has Apple almost forgotten about it, but third-party developers have also not adopted it. Even when the company spent about 20 minutes talking about iOS 17 features at its developer conference - WWDC 2023, the company did not mention the feature even once.

If we want Dynamic Island to gain traction, Apple needs to introduce more interactions with the integration of hardware and software, and push mainstream developers to continue adding this feature to their apps. For example, a promising initiative like Flighty offers some of the best uses of Dynamic Island, but it’s an app that requires a monthly subscription.

Considered the first major design change to the iPhone's display since the iPhone X, Dynamic Island is smaller than what was on the 3D Touch that Apple equipped on the iPhone 6s many years ago. While 3D Touch has been around for years, the future of Dynamic Island is unclear, with analyst Ross Young saying that Apple could move Face ID under the iPhone screen by 2025 and leave only a single hole in the screen. It would be a "death sentence" for Dynamic Island if Apple wanted to highlight the smaller punch hole.

Ross Young believes that by 2027, all camera sensors and Face ID will be under the screen, which will officially end Dynamic Island because Apple has no reason to continue supporting it.

iOS 17 is still in its early days of beta testing, so new features could be added by the time the company releases an official update or introduces the iPhone 15 with some design changes.
