The project, chaired by Dr. Tran Huu Tuyen and implemented by the University of Sciences, Hue University, aims to assess flood developments, current inundation status, flood drainage capacity of major rivers (Huong River, Bo River, O Lau River, Truoi River, Bu Lu River...) during flood season and impacts on the socio -economic environment of downstream areas...

Accordingly, the project research team collected hydrological data, compiled, analyzed, and evaluated data on flood developments, inundation, and socio-economic development activities on the above-mentioned main rivers in the downstream area. At the same time, the project team focused on researching and evaluating the current status of storms, floods, inundation, and flood drainage in these river areas; researching, calculating, and determining flood drainage corridors and flood drainage boundaries in river basins...; proposing flood drainage solutions and legal basis for flood drainage routes, serving the planning of sustainable socio-economic development and disaster response and prevention in the downstream area.

The topic has been commented on and highly appreciated by the council members for its practicality. However, in order for the topic to be applied in practice in the locality, the research team recommends that the flood prevention planning project should be implemented soon; including the flood escape corridor in the lower reaches of the Huong River; and the addition of a rain and flow monitoring system in the upper basins to improve the accuracy of flow forecasting. This is also an important basis for improving the ability to regulate reservoirs and reduce downstream floods...
