Verifying information about Yen Bai students eating rice with ginger and salt

On September 26, Vietnam Television's 24-hour Movement program broadcast the report "White rice with ginger at Mang Mu school, Yen Bai ".

Specifically, the report stated that a student's meal at Mang Mu school (Mo De commune, Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai) was a little white rice with fresh ginger and salt.

Mang Mu school has 138 students, the most crowded among the 6 kindergartens in Mo De commune. The school's kitchen was built temporarily over a year ago, with only a wood stove, so cooking enough meals for the children every day seems impossible.

In the report, the teacher said that the school cooks rice twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, students will eat rice with rice noodles. During one meal, the teacher said that 4 heads of cabbage will be cooked for 138 students, and the thin soup will help the children eat rice better.

After being broadcast, the report received mixed opinions. Among them, public opinion said that the images and content in the report did not accurately reflect reality. Accordingly, some mountainous districts of Yen Bai province such as Mu Cang Chai received a lot of attention and support from the Party, the State and the province regarding the diet for students, which is not as difficult as the report stated.

Regarding students eating ginger with salt, many people believe that for some Mong people in Mu Cang Chai, hot ginger is a daily favorite dish.

A representative of the Department of Education and Training of Yen Bai province said that the province is verifying.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Mu Cang Chai district, also said that the District People's Committee has directed verification and will have specific information after the conclusion is reached.

Mr. Tuan also affirmed that Mu Cang Chai district fully implements and ensures the support policies and regimes of the Party and State for ethnic minority and mountainous students.
