Building a brand and finding outlets for cage fish farming in Duy Ninh

On September 13, the Farmers' Association of Quang Binh province said that farmers in Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district have developed a model of raising specialty fish at the intersection of three rivers: Kien Giang - Long Dai - Nhat Le, with high productivity. However, output is a difficult problem that needs an effective consumption solution.

The region's specialty fish include barramundi and silver pomfret, which are new aquaculture methods in this river confluence area.

Rowing a boat to the fish cages, Mr. Pham Minh Dau (in Phu Ninh village, Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) said: “I am the first person to raise fish in cages here. I went to other provinces to learn about cage fish farming experience. At first, I only released a few hundred fish to try, but unexpectedly the fish grew quickly and soon brought profit.”

According to Mr. Pham Minh Dau, the area where he raises fish in cages is at the intersection of Kien Giang - Long Dai - Nhat Le rivers, so it has brackish water, suitable for raising sea bass, silver pomfret, eel...

After the first successful crop, Mr. Dau borrowed another 50 million VND from the district policy bank, expanded 9 fish cages, and released 3,000 fish fry.

After 6 months, the fish reach the right weight and are sold for 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg of barramundi and 300,000 - 320,000 VND/kg of rabbitfish. Profit is 100 million VND after deducting expenses.

Since then, Mr. Dau has taught the locals how to raise fish. Up to now, there are 22 households raising more than 60 fish cages at this river junction.

Fish raised in cages grow quickly due to strong water flow and abundant food.

Mr. Pham Van Thong (Phu Ninh village, Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) said that with Mr. Dau's guidance, his family borrowed capital to invest in 10 fish cages, earning more than 100 million VND/year.

However, at present, although fish production has grown well, output is facing difficulties due to unstable consumption. According to Mr. Pham Minh Dau, people are currently facing difficulties in consuming fish and hope that the local government will soon build the brand "Duy Ninh cage fish" to improve product quality and get closer to customers.

In response to this legitimate wish, Mr. Pham Minh Canh, Chairman of Duy Ninh Commune People's Committee, said that the local government is currently paying great attention to developing cage fish farming. In the coming time, the commune will discuss specifically with the people to build the Duy Ninh cage fish brand, thinking further to achieve OCOP standards from this product to enhance reputation, get closer to customers, and create breakthroughs in production, processing, and consumption.
