The Truong Lam canal from Xuan Hai bridge leading to Lam river, in Truong Lam village, Dan Hai commune, used to be a concern for many households when the landslide situation was serious, especially during the rainy season. The canal banks were washed away in sections, eating deep into gardens and threatening houses.
Although the local government has mobilized forces to build a 25m long stone gabion embankment on the left bank, the large flow velocity behind the culvert has damaged the newly reinforced part, continuing to affect the gardens and houses of households living next to the canal.

Mr. Ngo Tien Ha (Truong Lam village, Dan Hai commune) shared: “When there is a flood, the water level rises more than 2m, creating a strong vortex. Every year, the surrounding households have to spend money to buy stone cages to build embankments to hold the land and ensure the safety of their homes. However, this measure is not long-term, so people here are very worried.”
After a period of petitions from the people, from the beginning of July 2025, a concrete embankment section about 130m long in the downstream area of the canal began to be constructed. This is the point directly affected by the large flow after Xuan Hai bridge culvert - the cause of many serious landslides in the past time. The construction unit has mobilized maximum human resources and equipment, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to speed up the progress. The items are deployed in a rolling manner, both ensuring technical standards and limiting the impact on the lives of people living along the canal.

Mr. Dinh Van Nghia (Quang Minh Consulting & Construction Co., Ltd., Nghi Xuan Commune) said: "This is a canal section with weak soil, narrow ground and located close to a residential area, so when constructing, we have to work and handle technical issues at the same time. The unit also takes advantage of every sunny day to pour concrete, making efforts to complete the construction on schedule to ensure safety for people before the flood season."
The Truong Lam canal is nearly 600m long, but currently only the downstream section is under construction with a length of 130m. The remaining sections are still earthen banks, while the flow velocity when discharging the sluice is quite large, potentially causing further landslides if not handled synchronously.

Mr. Tran Quynh Thao (Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Hai Commune, Ha Tinh Province) said: "This canal directly affects many households living along the canal banks. Although the locality really wants to solidify the entire route, due to limited resources, priority must be given to handling the most vulnerable section first. The locality is also continuing to propose to the Provincial People's Committee to soon have a support plan to complete the remaining sections as soon as possible."
