The construction progress of Da Han Bay embankment ( Long An ward) is being accelerated.
Many projects are gradually "reaching the finish line"
From the above orientation, many key projects have been launched. Information from the Long An Construction Investment Project Management Board (PMB), the unit is the investor of 11 projects in the field of agriculture and rural development with a total capital of more than 2,108 billion VND. Among these are the project to dredge the Vam Co Tay River and 10 embankment projects (anti-erosion embankment, preventing salinity of the Vam Co Dong River at Ben Luc; embankment to protect the Vam Co Tay River from the new Tan An bridge to Da Han Bay (Long An ward); embankment of the Nuoc Man canal (Long Huu commune); embankment to prevent erosion of the Vam Co Tay River bank (Khanh Hau ward); embankment to prevent erosion of the Kien Tuong ward; handling of erosion of the Can Giuoc River bank (Can Giuoc commune); dredging the Vam Co Tay River from the Hong Ngu canal to Binh Chau hamlet,...).
Some projects have "finished" early, bringing about clear results. Specifically, 3 projects including the embankment to protect the banks of the Vam Co Tay River (from the new Tan An bridge to the junction with the Da Han Bay embankment), the Nuoc Man canal embankment (East bank, Long Huu commune) and the project to handle landslides on the banks of the Can Giuoc River have been completed and are in the final settlement stage. The remaining 8 projects are expected to be completed by December 2025 at the latest.
Among the projects, the Da Han Bay area (Long An ward) has been considered a "hot spot" for landslides in recent years. The province has invested in building a 2km-long embankment, divided into 2 phases. Phase 2 is 1.2km long, with a capital of more than 140 billion VND, started in 2023 and completed in 2024, and has quickly proven effective in preventing landslides and stabilizing people's lives. Phase 1 alone is 875m long, with a capital of 178 billion VND, started in 2021 but stalled due to site clearance problems. By October 2024, when the difficulties were resolved, the project was restarted and has now reached 95% of the volume.
Mr. Le Van Phuong, representative of Thanh Tuan Construction and Construction Survey Company Limited - the construction unit, said: "As soon as the site was handed over, we mobilized maximum human resources and equipment to speed up the progress. We strive to complete the project by December 2025, ensuring absolute quality and safety."
Mr. Doan Van Thai (residing in Long An ward) shared: “At first, my family was a bit worried about losing land. But when we saw the embankment completed, no more landslides, houses and roads were stable, we understood that the project was for the common good, so we all agreed.”
Continue to recommend investment in landslide "hot spots"
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ngan - Deputy Head of the Department of Agricultural Project Management - Long An Construction Investment Project Management Board, emphasized: "During the construction of the embankments, the Board regularly inspects and urges the implementing units to ensure progress and quality. The river embankments not only handle urgent landslides but also create a long-term safety corridor for production and life. The Board is coordinating with sectors and localities to speed up the progress, and at the same time prepare the next projects in accordance with the sustainable development orientation".
In parallel with the ongoing projects, the province has proposed that the Central Government support nearly 4,000 billion VND from the reserve fund and medium-term public investment for the period 2026-2030 to implement 11 new projects. These are all large-scale projects, spread over many areas such as the embankment of the West bank of Nuoc Man canal (Tan Lan commune), the embankment of Bao Dinh river (Tan An ward), the embankment to protect the bank of Vam Co Tay river (from the Health Protection Center to the Ring canal), handling landslides on the Can Giuoc river bank, the embankment to prevent landslides on the Thu Thua canal bank, the embankment to protect Kien Tuong ward (remaining section), the embankment to protect the residential area on the North bank of Vam Co Tay river (Moc Hoa commune), the embankment to prevent landslides on the Tam Vu river bank, the embankment to prevent landslides on the Duong Van Duong canal bank, or the embankment to protect the South bank of Vam Co Tay river (section passing Chua Noi),...
Not stopping there, the province also proposed investing in two projects to prevent and combat drought and saltwater intrusion, which are the salinity control system on the Vam Co River and the Thanh An freshwater reservoir. This will be an important supplementary source, serving both production and daily life of the people during the dry season.
It can be seen that the implementation of river embankment projects not only contributes to responding to climate change, limiting landslides and preventing salinity, but also protects the safety of people's lives and property, while creating favorable conditions for agricultural production and developing transport infrastructure.
In the context of unpredictable climate change, these projects are not simply technical infrastructure but also a solid "ecological shield", opening up opportunities for stable and sustainable socio -economic development for Tay Ninh in particular and the Mekong Delta in general./.
