Love learning

Photos on social media show groups of people standing around school gates anxiously waiting for their children to take their exams. Their presence does not do the math for them or write the essays for them, but they still believe that their presence is a form of mental therapy to help their children calm down.

I know a colleague who took leave during her child’s exam days. She had already been accepted directly into the university of her choice, and the graduation exam was only a condition with minimum scores, but she still tried to arrange her work to take her child to the exam school every day.

Last night, my uncle in the countryside called me with excitement to inform me that his son did well on the exam and will probably graduate in the top group. My father and I have decided to go to vocational school, but even so, we still have to graduate in a way that is not embarrassing. I am happy for my father and me and also happy for the future of the children who have just passed the memorable exam when the new general education program was first applied. Even if we have to hold a wrench or carry a hammer in the future, we still have to try to get a "pretty" graduation certificate so that no one can look down on us.

Looking at the parents gathered together with pensive faces, I remembered the feelings when my children entered the exam school. The genuine feelings, with the most detailed calculations. Things that many fathers whose children were taking exams often thought about. It was a familiar road to school, but still had to be surveyed, calculated the distance, the time of each traffic light, the traffic density during the travel time to make it the fastest and safest. What to eat, what color to wear, what words to avoid saying... on exam days were also stories. Before my child took the exam, I burned incense and asked my ancestors for blessings. I knew that it might just be a spiritual will, not a substitute for my child's actual studying, but it was an expression of a person's legitimate desire.

Children cannot stay in the arms of their parents forever and this exam marks their transition into life. Whether taking the exam to get a score for university admission or just for high school graduation, no one wants their children to encounter any unexpected events. Therefore, the concern, enthusiasm, even the actions considered redundant, are not to add pressure, but to add motivation to children. It is a sincere and touching expression of concern and love for learning. We agree and are happy about that, when learning is increasingly appreciated, society recognizes and cares for it properly.
