YouTube requires AI content labeling

According to PCMag , YouTube users must disclose if their videos contain content generated by AI tools. The new options will allow creators to label videos. Accounts that do not comply with this regulation will be banned from the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and have their videos removed.

The first label appears in the description panel to classify whether a video is AI-generated. The second label appears in the video player when the content covers sensitive topics like elections, conflicts, or public health crises.

YouTube vows to build accountability into AI tools and features

Experts have expressed concern that the development of generative AI tools could flood the internet with fake news and threaten the 2024 US presidential election.

YouTube will allow people to request removal of AI content that mimics real people, including using their faces or voices. However, the company will consider a variety of factors before deciding to remove it. If the content is satirical, or involves a government official or a celebrity, YouTube will have stricter standards.

According to the NY Post , YouTube said the company will provide specific guidance with examples when the regulation is applied in 2024. The company is focusing on building a team and developing technology capable of moderating content at scale, to ensure YouTube's AI tools create appropriate content.
