On the morning of September 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association established a preliminary council to consider and award the 3rd "Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Award".
Artist Vo Minh Lam and Meritorious Artist Tu Suong in the reformed opera "Legend of Sa Moc" (Song Viet Performance Organization Company Limited)
The art units introduced 20 plays in the following genres: Cai Luong, Hat Boi, Drama, Circus. The preliminary judging panel chaired by People's Artist - Director Tran Ngoc Giau analyzed each work to introduce the works worthy of being awarded by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations to the final round.
Play "The Hand of Heaven" (Hoang Thai Thanh Stage)
The awarding of the 3rd "Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts" award is one of the activities in the action program (No. 45-CTrHD/TU dated December 23, 2008) of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and Resolution (No. 23-NQ/TW) of the Politburo (10th tenure) on the goal of continuing to build and develop literature and arts in the new period (creating many literary and artistic works of high ideological and artistic value, both having an orientation effect and meeting the increasingly high cultural and spiritual needs of the people); promptly honoring typical authors and works with profound influence on the masses; encouraging and motivating artists to promote their dynamism and artistic creativity to contribute to the construction and development of the city and the country.

The list of introductions from art units participating in the preliminary round includes: circus play "Dragon Father, Fairy Mother" (Phuong Nam Arts Theater), reformed play "Passion and Power" (Kim Ngan Entertainment Company Limited), play "City of Love" (Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater), opera play "Swan Shirt", opera play "Le Cong Ky An" (Ho Chi Minh City Art Theater), reformed play "The Night Before the Golden Day", "Legend of Sa Moc" (Song Viet Performance Organization Company Limited), reformed play "Motherland's Ho", City of Dawn", "In the Name of Justice" (Tran Huu Trang Theater).
Circus "Dragon Father, Fairy Mother" (Southern Arts Theater)
Children's plays "My Little Angel", "Making Friends with the Sky" (Hong Hac Stage), spoken plays "Rang Tram Bau" (Trinh Kim Chi Stage), "Fiery Field", "Afternoon Sun" (Quoc Thao Drama Stage), "Justice Like the Sun" (Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater), "The Hand of Heaven" (Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Stage), "Crying in the Blue Sky" (Su Viet Joint Stock Company Stage), plays "Hoan Kiem Ho" (Phieu Linh TCBD Company Limited, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture), "Against the Wind" (Sai Gon Phang Advertising Media Services Joint Stock Company).
Play "Le Cong Ky An" (Ho Chi Minh City Opera House)
People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc commented: "The good news is that the plays nominated for the preliminary round have all been performed to a large audience. Some plays won gold and silver medals at national professional festivals and performances. Some plays were staged for propaganda purposes during major holidays in the city but later became regular performances, with tickets sold out for all shows."
