If you’re constipated, kiwis can help relieve it thanks to their fiber content. Kiwis have a special type of fiber that helps keep stools soft, easier to pass, and more regular, explains Dr. Sethi.

People with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) often find that most fruits cause gas, bloating, and discomfort due to their high FODMAP sugar content. However, kiwis are low in FODMAP, so they are less likely to cause gas, bloating, or pain in people with IBS, Dr. Sethi added.

One of the best ways to keep your gut healthy and functioning properly is to get enough fiber. Dr. Sethi notes that one kiwi has about 2-3 grams of fiber, which aids in bowel movements and keeps stools soft.

Enhance digestive enzymes

Kiwis help improve digestion because they contain actinidin, a natural enzyme that helps break down proteins. This enzyme plays an important role in how the gut processes heavy meals, especially those rich in meat or dairy.

So if you eat kiwi with or after a protein-rich meal, it can aid digestion and reduce post-meal discomfort.

Dr. Sethi emphasizes that the benefits of kiwi are clinically proven. Studies have confirmed the role of kiwi in improving gut health.

Clinical trials show that eating just two green kiwis a day regularly can significantly reduce constipation symptoms in just a few weeks.
