In the European Golden Boot race this season, Erling Haaland is still ranked fifth with Kylian Mbappe when both have 13 goals after 12 rounds for Man City and PSG respectively. The Premier League and Ligue 1 are among the top 5 leagues in Europe, so both have 26 points.
Notably, leading the race for the European Golden Shoe is currently a relatively "unknown" striker, Akor Adams (who is playing for Montpellier in Ligue 1) with 22 goals this season.
Akor Adam's achievements include 15 goals for his former club Lillestrom (Norway) and 7 goals for Montpellier (France). With a coefficient of 1.5 points per goal in the Norwegian championship and 2 points per goal in Ligue 1, the 23-year-old Nigerian striker has 36.5 points and leads the race for the Golden Boot.
Akor Adam joined Montpellier in August for $5 million and has only scored 7 goals in 12 matches, but he is credited with 15 goals at his former club Lilllestrom because the Norwegian league starts early from April 2023, while European leagues usually start in August.
In second place on the Golden Boot title race rankings also belongs to a player playing in Norway, Amahl Pellegrino, when he scored 23 goals for Bodo Glimt after 28 rounds and won 34.5 points.
The Norwegian striker's impressive form has helped Bodo Glimt lead the rankings with 67 points, 9 points ahead of second-placed Brann after 28 rounds.
Third place belongs to Harry Kane, when he currently has 17 goals for Bayern Munich after 11 rounds in the Bundesliga, with 34 points. Another striker playing in the Bundesliga, for Stuttgart, Serhou Guirassy is fourth with 15 goals and 30 points.
Last season, Erling Haaland won the European Golden Boot award after scoring 36 goals in 72 appearances to help Man City win a historic treble. Behind the Norwegian striker are Harry Kane (30 goals), Kylian Mbappe (29 goals), Alexandre Lacazete (27 goals) and Victor Osimhen (26 goals).
The player who holds the record for winning the Golden Boot is Lionel Messi, with 6 times, in the seasons 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. Cristiano Ronaldo is second with 4 times, in the seasons 2007-2008, 2010-2011, 2013-2014 (shared with Luis Suarez) and 2014-2015.
