The meeting between Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and new Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York.

According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Kamikawa emphasized the further development of the Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership, and congratulated India on successfully hosting the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said good cooperation has been achieved between G7 Chair Japan and G20 Chair India, according to which the two sides can transfer the results of the G7 to the G20.

On social network X, Foreign Minister Jaishankar wrote: “The two sides exchanged views on the Special Strategic and Global Partnership and discussed regional, multilateral and global cooperation and promoting this relationship.”

In the economic field, the Japanese and Indian foreign ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation, including steadily promoting the high-speed rail project, the flagship project between Japan and India.

Exchanging views on regional situations such as the Indo- Pacific region and Security Council reform, the two ministers also stressed that it is important to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and affirmed that Japan and India will continue to make further efforts to address issues facing the international community.

Both Japan and India are members of the Quad grouping along with the US and Australia, which aims to enhance cooperation in many areas. The group is seen as a counterweight to China amid increasingly fierce US-China competition.
