AstraZeneca Vietnam will plant about 22.5 million trees in the next 5 years.

The investment includes new or expanded projects in Vietnam, Brazil, India, Ghana and Rwanda, contributing to AstraZeneca's efforts to combat climate change, restore nature, enhance biodiversity, and build resilience of ecosystems and communities, covering more than 100,000 hectares of land worldwide .

This investment follows the initial commitment of the AZ Forest programme launched by AstraZeneca in 2020 to plant and maintain more than 50 million trees by 2025.

“Through AZ Forest, we are working closely with local communities and ecologists to achieve large-scale forest restoration, supporting biodiversity and sustaining people’s livelihoods,” said Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca Group.

Mr. Nitin Kapoor, President and CEO of AstraZeneca Vietnam and Asia Emerging Markets, shared: "I am delighted to witness this strong progress of the pioneering AZ Forest program, and proud that Vietnam is part of this milestone expansion phase. With the support of the Government of Vietnam, we will invest up to USD 50 million (VND 1,200 billion) over the next five years to plant 22.5 million trees, as well as restore the country's forests and landscapes. This initiative is expected to create a positive, significant and long-term impact on the economy , communities and environment in Vietnam."

AZ Forest's projects are co-designed by forestry experts, local communities and governments to restore natural forests and develop agroforestry production, thereby bringing co-benefits such as creating more jobs and improving community health.
