This morning (March 7), Van Thinh Phat court began questioning defendant Truong My Lan and accomplices.
After questioning two defendants, former senior leaders of SCB Bank, Vo Tan Hoang Van (former General Director of SCB) and Bui Anh Dung (former Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank), the panel of judges announced that they had just received a petition from defendant Truong My Lan through her lawyer.
The petition stated that many people owe money to Ms. Truong My Lan and asked the panel of judges to create conditions for her family to collect the debt to remedy the damage caused in the case.
The person who helped Ms. Lan collect the debts was a lawyer and Chu Duyet Phan (ie Mary Chu Yuet Fan, 29 years old, is one of the two daughters of Ms. Truong My Lan and Mr. Chu Lap Co).
Regarding the content of this petition, the presiding judge clearly announced that the panel of judges had no decision to prohibit the defendants’ relatives from collecting the debt to remedy the consequences. The lawyers and defendants’ relatives carried out this collection and then reported to the panel of judges.
“In the petition of the defendant Truong My Lan, the names of those who are in debt are not mentioned, but only in general terms. Therefore, the defendant needs to clearly state in the petition the contents, who is in debt, how much is owed, and specific address information, so that the panel of judges can help the defendant collect these debts,” announced Chairman Pham Luong Toan.
The court continued to question the other defendants. Among them, defendant Truong Khanh Hoang (Acting General Director of SCB Bank) admitted that the indictment against him was completely correct.
Defendant Hoang stated that he received a monthly salary of more than 300 million VND. In addition, Hoang also received a bonus of 5 billion VND.
In particular, in 2021, the defendant was given 10 million shares (equivalent to 100 billion VND) by Ms. Truong My Lan.
Responding to the interrogation of the People's Court, defendant Truong Hue Van (General Director of Van Thinh Phat Group Investment Joint Stock Company) admitted that the indictment of the Supreme People's Procuracy was correct.
Defendant Truong Hue Van stated that she is the niece of defendant Truong My Lan and was loved by her so much that she often called her mother.
Also according to the defendant Van's testimony, the defendant was raised and educated by Ms. Truong My Lan since childhood, so he completely trusted her, listened to her instructions, and did not dare to argue.
"The defendant believed in her vision so he believed and listened to whatever she said," defendant Truong Hue Van said at the trial.
Defendant Truong Hue Van also stated that, in addition to her salary, she did not receive any share in the wrongdoings of defendant Truong My Lan, but because she lived with her since childhood, she was given money for holidays like other family members.
According to the indictment, defendant Truong Hue Van was trusted by Ms. Truong My Lan to be the General Director of Van Thinh Phat Group Investment Joint Stock Company and to manage and operate many other companies belonging to the Group. Since 2020, Ms. Truong My Lan directed defendant Van to establish 52 "ghost" companies and then coordinated with leaders and employees of SCB Bank to prepare loan documents in violation of regulations.
Defendant Truong Hue Van and his accomplices created 155 fake loans to withdraw money from SCB Bank. This effective assistance of defendant Truong Hue Van helped Ms. Truong My Lan embezzle more than 1,000 billion VND from SCB Bank.
Also at today's trial, defendant Tran Thi My Dung (former Deputy General Director of SCB Bank) asked to pay 1 billion VND in compensation.
