In Nong Cong commune, floodwaters flooded from the night of September 29, causing 33/44 villages with 3,200 households and 11,330 people to be submerged in water.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command quickly mobilized forces and vehicles to reach isolated areas, evacuating the elderly and children to safety. Thousands of essential goods, clean water and life jackets were handed out to each household by officers and soldiers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ha (in Nong Cong commune) said: "When I got to Van Thien, there was a flood. I am very grateful to Military Region 4 for rescuing me and taking me to safety."
Immediately after the storm weakened, at many schools in the localities, soldiers were present very early, urgently clearing fallen trees, collecting garbage, cleaning classrooms and equipment, ensuring a clean and safe environment, ready to welcome students back to school.
Comrade Hoang Thi Oanh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Hoang Quy Commune, Thanh Hoa Province shared: "Defense Zone 2 mobilized its soldiers very promptly to help schools and people, demonstrating the close military-civilian relationship. That is the spirit of responsibility and sharing with the community and people in difficult times. The unit has helped the people as well as all schools in Hoang Quy to quickly overcome the consequences so that children can go to school soon."
With the spirit of "human life is above all", "wherever there is difficulty and danger, there are soldiers", immediately after storm No. 10 made landfall, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command established working groups, directly went to key areas to direct storm prevention, coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to arrange plans for the use of forces and means, promptly handle all situations, and avoid being passive or surprised.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Dung, Deputy Commander of the Defense Command of Area 2 - Ha Trung, Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command, the Defense Command of Area 2 has given priority to areas with heavy damage, coordinated with local Party committees, authorities and militia to clean up schools so that children can quickly return to school.
