Three expressways will pilot the removal of barriers at toll entrances.

Việt NamViệt Nam09/11/2023

Three North-South expressway projects in the East, Dien Chau - Bai Vot, Nha Trang - Cam Lam and Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, will pilot non-stop toll collection and no barriers at the entrance.

The Ministry of Transport has just requested relevant units to pilot the implementation of a non-stop electronic toll collection system for the three projects above, following the model of no barriers at the input, barriers at the output, and no mixed toll lanes. These are projects invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) method.

The Ministry also requested research to choose the appropriate exit speed, ensuring the processing speed of the toll collection system, optimizing traffic capacity and vehicle safety.

Thus, at the exit of the highway, the management unit still arranges barriers and toll booths. Cars entering the highway without enough money in their traffic account will not be allowed to exit and will have to pay offline. According to current regulations, vehicles entering the highway must have a traffic account to pay the toll automatically.

The Vietnam Road Administration is assigned to monitor the implementation of the pilot model at the above projects and report and recommend that the Ministry consider moving to the phase of collecting tolls without barriers.

Of the three expressway projects above, the 49km Nha Trang - Cam Lam section passing through Khanh Hoa province has been completed, while the two sections Dien Chau - Bai Vot (Nghe An, Ha Tinh) and Cam Lam - Vinh Hao ( Binh Thuan ) are still under construction, expected to be completed in 2024.
