On September 15, 1945, from Bach Mai Radio Station, the first news bulletin with the code VNTTX (Vietnam News Agency) was broadcast, conveying Vietnam's Declaration of Independence to the world . From that sacred moment, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) officially entered history, becoming the official voice of the young revolutionary government .

Birth of the National News Agency
Before the August Revolution in 1945, our country did not have a news agency. The August Revolution succeeded, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born. The provisional government of the new Vietnam established the Ministry of Information and Propaganda, including the Vietnam Information Agency - the predecessor of VNA and Voice of Vietnam .
On August 23, 1945, VNA began its first working day by collecting and exploiting news from AFP in Saigon and Paris, receiving signals from French military stations, Saigon GZR radio station, two-way communication with Paris... The next day, August 24, the first news was sent to President Ho Chi Minh and the Central Standing Committee. It was from here that President Ho Chi Minh named the fledgling news agency: Vietnam News Agency.
On September 7, 1945, the Voice of Vietnam radio station announced its first message: “This is the Voice of Vietnam, broadcasting from Hanoi, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.” One week later, on September 15, 1945, from Bach Mai Radio Station, the first news lines with the symbols VNTTX (Vietnam News Agency), VNA (Vietnam News Agency) and AVI (Agence Vietnamienne d'Information) were transmitted around the world. That was the full text of the Declaration of Independence and the list of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in three languages: Vietnamese, English, and French.
This event marked the birth of Vietnam News Agency - the State information agency, the direct voice of the revolutionary government.
On September 15, 1945, Vietnam News Agency - the name penned by Uncle Ho - broadcast the full text of the Declaration of Independence along with the list of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam through news bulletins in three languages: Vietnamese, English, and French. That sacred moment has become the Traditional Day of Vietnam News Agency, now known as Vietnam News Agency.

From that moment, VNA and VOV became two pillars of the national information industry, working together to affirm their position and protect the young independence. And September 15th became the traditional day of Vietnam News Agency, now Vietnam News Agency.

Vietnam News Agency - "extended arm" of the revolutionary government
The birth of Vietnam News Agency demonstrated President Ho Chi Minh's foresight on the strategic role of information and journalism in protecting independence. He understood that a young government would face countless challenges: internal and external enemies, the risk of being surrounded and isolated politically and diplomatically.

To assert sovereignty and legitimacy, the country needs an "official voice" and a strong enough information system to promptly convey the Government's policies to the people, while also bringing the message of independence to the world.
The first news bulletin of Vietnam News Agency was that affirmation: Vietnam had become an independent nation, with a legitimate government, an official voice and an equal status with other nations.
It was not only the first news report but also an affirmation of national sovereignty in modern journalistic language; a milestone for humanity to know Vietnam as an independent entity in the international community.

Historical significance of the first newsletter

Affirming sovereignty and international title
The publication of the Declaration of Independence in many languages demonstrates President Ho Chi Minh's vision of information diplomacy: the world must know that Vietnam has a legitimate government, an independent nation. This is a strategic step to create the premise for international recognition.
Organize and gather domestic forces
President Ho Chi Minh's wise decision created the foundation for an organized, disciplined national press and news agency closely linked to the nation's destiny.
The press and radio became “weapons” to enlighten the masses and disseminate the resistance and national construction line. In Ho Chi Minh’s thought, the press not only reported news but also educated, mobilized, and organized the people, transforming spiritual strength into strength for action.
Dealing with misinformation
From the very beginning, the revolutionary government had to face many sources of distorted information from colonialists, imperialists and reactionary forces. An official news and broadcasting system was an important shield to protect people's trust and maintain unified direction from the central government.

A milestone that lasts forever
Over 80 years of development and growth, from a few initial staff and reporters, VNA has become one of the leading news agencies in the region, with more than 60 information products of all types (print, radio, photo, television, electronic newspapers) and a wide network of reporters in the country and key international locations.

VNA is also the most important foreign information center in the country, providing source news in five languages (English, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish), along with many print and electronic publications in ten languages, from Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Chinese to Japanese, Korean, Russian, English, French, and Spanish.
The Agency has been honored three times to receive the noble title: Hero of Labor in the renovation period (2001), Hero of the People's Armed Forces (2005, 2020) - worthy recognition from the Party and State for its great contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Above all, the milestone of September 15, 1945 remains a sacred starting point, reminding generations of cadres, reporters, and editors of the noble mission of revolutionary journalists.
The birth and first bulletin of Vietnam News Agency are a testament to the strategic vision, will and determination of a nation that has just gained independence. It is also the foundation for VNA today to continue affirming its role as a national news agency, the country's key multimedia agency, worthy of the trust of the Party, State and people./.
