After storm No. 10 (storm Bualoi), 167 more schools in Ha Tinh were damaged and had their roofs blown off. Currently, teachers and local authorities are working hard to restore normal teaching and learning activities.
After storm No. 10, Ky Thinh Primary School (Vung Ang Ward, Ha Tinh) was severely damaged when the entire classroom block at the main school was swept away by the storm, leaving only rubble for desks, chairs, and blackboards, and many school supplies were blown out into the fields. At Point 1, in Canh Truong residential group (Vung Ang Ward), all 10 prefabricated classrooms were blown away by the wind. What teachers and students saw was only bare ground, broken desks and chairs, and tilted blackboards.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Principal of Ky Thinh Primary School, sadly said that in the previous storm, the school only suffered minor damage, but this time the entire facility was severely damaged. In addition to the classrooms, 8 teachers' offices were also swept away, desks, chairs, and blackboards were thrown into the fields by the wind, and the student parking lot was knocked over and completely deformed.
Ky Thinh Primary School currently has 745 students in 27 classes, with 248 students in Campus 1 alone. Both schools are less than 3km apart but are now in a state of devastation. The school has not yet determined a date when it can resume teaching activities.
Storm No. 10 also collapsed the entire roof of the school yard, and completely damaged the water tank serving the boarding school of Dan Truong Primary School (Dan Hai Commune, Ha Tinh). During the two days of the storm, the school arranged two schools as evacuation sites for people in key areas. By the afternoon of September 29, when people had moved home, cleaning and repairs could be carried out.
According to Mr. Dinh Quang Dang, Principal of Dan Truong Primary School, on the afternoon of September 29, the school mobilized all teachers and staff to clean up and repair after the storm. If the cleaning is safe and clean, the school will allow more than 670 students to return to school on September 30. If the cleaning is not done in time, students will have an extra day off. However, the power grid has not been restored yet, so organizing teaching and learning immediately will face many difficulties.
According to statistics from the professional sector, the impact of storm No. 10 affected 167 schools in Ha Tinh province. Among them, Ha Huy Tap ward had 9 schools; Truong Luu commune had 2 schools; Vu Quang commune had 8 schools; Song Tri ward had 7 schools; Vung Ang ward had 8 schools; Dong Tien commune had 7 schools; Thach Lac commune had 5 schools; Thach Khe commune had 8 schools.
Schools in Ha Tinh are making every effort to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10 with the determination to soon stabilize facilities to maintain teaching and learning activities.
