Southeast Asian newspaper comments on Vietnam national football team's FIFA relegation

(Dan Tri) - According to FIFA's September rankings, the Vietnamese team ranked 114th in the world, second in Southeast Asia (after Thailand), but we dropped one place. Regional media commented on this ranking.

With a world ranking of 114, the Vietnamese team has dropped one place compared to the most recent ranking. The reason for the Vietnamese team's drop in ranking is because coach Kim Sang Sik's team did not compete internationally in September.

Malaysia's New Straits Times wrote: "The Vietnamese team is ranked 114th in the world. In Southeast Asia, Thailand leads with a world ranking of 101. Next are the Vietnamese and Indonesian teams (world ranking of 119). The Malaysian team is ranked 4th in Southeast Asia, with a world ranking of 123."

“Malaysia coach Peter Cklamovski said Harimau Malaya’s rise in the rankings was a worthy reward for the team’s tireless work ethic. Malaysia moved up two places from their previous world ranking of 125,” the New Straits Times added.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Football website, which specializes in Southeast Asian football, commented: “According to the September FIFA rankings, Thailand is still the top team in Southeast Asia. The Golden Temple team moved up one place on the global rankings.”

“The team that gained the most points in the FIFA rankings is the Malaysian team (up 9.75 points). This team moved up two places in the rankings”, the same lines were written on the ASEAN Football page.

As for Thailand's leading daily newspaper, Thairath, this newspaper stated its opinion: "Only two teams in Southeast Asia dropped in the FIFA rankings this month, which are the Vietnamese team and the Indonesian team."

In particular, the Vietnam team will have matches in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, against the Nepal team on October 9 and 14, in Ho Chi Minh City.
