The Red Flamboyant Flower Festival - Hai Phong 2024 with the theme "Hai Phong - shining heritage land" because Hai Phong is a land with a long history and cultural depth with a dense concentration of tangible and intangible cultural heritages. Along with the event of Cat Ba archipelago being honored by UNESCO as a world natural heritage on September 16, 2023, the story of 18 unique gold artifacts donated by the people to General Le Chan, received by Hai Phong Museum and prepared for display to serve the people and tourists to visit and worship on May 11 will further clarify the content of the theme of this year's Red Flamboyant Flower Festival.
Accordingly, the total weight of the gold artifacts is nearly 4 taels, including a pair of bracelets, a card, a leaf, a set of betel leaves - three areca nuts, a 999-bead necklace, a fan, a gold plaque, two gold tokens, two lip balm boxes and three pairs of earrings.
The artifacts are exquisitely crafted, bearing the strong imprint of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship. These artifacts are tentatively identified by researchers as dating from the Nguyen Dynasty, around 1920-1927, donated by a man named Phan Tran Truc at the Nghe Temple worshiping female general Le Chan. On the cards are the words Trung Thien Thanh Mau, Trang Huy Thuong Dang Than, Duc Bao Trung Hung, Phan Tran Truc.
According to the remaining documents, in 1959, Mr. Pham Ba Hung, who was then the custodian of Nghe Temple, deposited this set of antiques in the National Bank of Vietnam according to the regulations at that time, with a total weight of nearly four ounces.
By 1976, this amount of gold continued to be deposited at the State Bank Branch in Hai Phong .
The exhibition area of the set of metal artifacts in the Nghe Temple sanctuary is prepared by Hai Phong Museum to welcome people and tourists to visit and enjoy on May 11.
After completing the necessary procedures for a long time since 2007, in early February 2024, Hai Phong Museum received the handover of the above antiques from the State Bank of Vietnam, Hai Phong branch. The unsealing was carried out at Nghe Temple - the place of worship of General Le Chan.
Based on the decorative patterns on the gold items offered to the Nghe Temple, experts believe the artifacts were crafted around the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The fact that Hai Phong Museum displays it for people and tourists to admire on the occasion of the Red Flamboyant Festival - Hai Phong 2024 is even more meaningful.
With its rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage, Hai Phong is not only a dynamic and developing city, but also a land with depth in history, culture and spiritual beliefs.
