Thai newspaper fears Nguyen Xuan Son will make history at AFF Cup 2024

Thai newspaper Thairath pointed out that Nguyen Xuan Son could set two records in the AFF Cup 2024. The main striker of the Vietnamese team has scored 7 goals in the AFF Cup 2024. With just 3 more goals, he could equal the achievement of Noh Alam Shah (Singapore), who holds the record for most goals scored in one AFF Cup. Specifically, Noh Alam Shah scored 10 goals in the AFF Cup 2007.

Xuan Son is leading the list of top scorers at AFF Cup 2024

In addition, Thairath newspaper said that Xuan Son is facing the opportunity to become the first Vietnamese player to exclusively win the title of Top Scorer at the AFF Cup 2024. Previously, Tien Linh shared the title of Top Scorer at the AFF Cup 2022 with Thai striker Teerasil Dangda when both scored 6 goals.

“ Nguyen Xuan Son, 27 years old, has only played 4 matches in the ASEAN Cup 2024, starting from the last match of the group stage when the Vietnamese team beat Myanmar 5-0. However, he has scored 7 goals, currently leading the scoring list of the tournament ,” Thairath newspaper admired Xuan Son’s scoring ability.

“ Can Xuan Son score more goals and set a new record? The answer will be in the second leg ,” wrote Thairath .

The Thai newspaper also emphasized that the Vietnamese team has a chance to win the AFF Cup for the third time after 2008 and 2018. However, Thairath believes that the Thai team will try their best in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final on January 5 after losing 1-2 in the first leg at Viet Tri Stadium on January 2.
