Ho Chi Minh City rewards chess player Lai Ly Huynh

VHO - On the afternoon of September 29, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City Cao Van Chong and the working delegation visited and congratulated chess player Lai Ly Huynh in Phu Loi ward, Ho Chi Minh City, right after he made a historic miracle, winning the world championship in the men's individual standard chess event.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to award the champion a total of 300 million VND.

Mr. Cao Van Chong awarded a total bonus of 300 million VND from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City to chess player Lai Ly Huynh.

Authorized by the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Mr. Cao Van Chong awarded 200 million VND from the City People's Committee and 100 million VND from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Lai Ly Huynh.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Cao Van Chong emphasized: “Lai Ly Huynh is the first Vietnamese player to win the world championship in the men's individual standard chess category. This is not only a great pride for Ho Chi Minh City sports but also an honor for the country's sports.”

Mr. Chong also expressed his hope that the champion will continue to train and maintain his form to conquer new heights: “We hope Huynh will promote his achievements and constantly improve to continue to conquer many noble titles in upcoming major tournaments. The city's leaders always care, accompany and expect the athletes to bring glory to Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country.”

In a solemn atmosphere, Lai Ly Huynh emotionally expressed his thanks to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for their timely attention and encouragement. He affirmed that he will continue to make efforts, maintain his form and determination to defend the world championship title.

Previously, on September 27, at the final match of the World Chinese Chess Championship, Lai Ly Huynh had excellently defeated his Chinese opponent, officially ending the 18-time consecutive championship streak of Chinese players in this category. This is a historic milestone, bringing Vietnamese Chinese chess to a new height on the world map.

The historic victory and well-deserved reward not only affirm Lai Ly Huynh's talent, but also spread confidence and pride to Ho Chi Minh City sports in particular and Vietnamese sports in general. His achievement opens a new chapter for the country's chess, affirming that Vietnam is capable of reaching the highest international arenas.
