On May 22, Dong Thap General Hospital held the opening ceremony of the Endovascular Intervention Unit (under the Department of Cardiology - Geriatrics), with a total budget of about 34 billion VND; at the same time, organized a workshop on "Interventional Cardiology" to exchange experiences with medical experts, upper-level hospitals and the Mekong Delta region on the treatment and care of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
Director of the Department of Health of Dong Thap province Doan Tan Buu said that the endovascular intervention unit will receive and treat patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and diseases that require digital subtraction angiography. In addition, it will treat diseases of the cerebrovascular system, visceral vessels, peripheral blood vessels, and perform coronary angiography and coronary stent placement.
According to Mr. Buu, to put the facility into operation, it takes 3 years of preparation from technology, human resources to equipment... therefore, the Board of Directors of Dong Thap General Hospital is required to regularly connect and consult on experience and expertise from experts from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital to improve the capacity and techniques of the unit's medical staff, doctors and technicians.
“Previously, on average, there were about 3 cases of interventional cardiovascular disease per day that had to be transferred to higher-level hospitals for treatment. The operation of the endovascular intervention unit is a step forward in the treatment of interventional cardiovascular diseases at Dong Thap General Hospital. People do not have to go to higher-level hospitals for treatment, avoiding the "golden hour", saving time and costs,” Mr. Doan Tan Buu emphasized.
It is known that the Endovascular Intervention Unit implements interventional cardiovascular techniques such as coronary angiography; coronary artery angioplasty and stent placement with professional support from experts from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.
