Recently, the expedition team of Jungle Boss Company Limited (in Phong Nha town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh ) found a mysterious lake in a branch of Thung cave, belonging to the cave system in Hung Thoong - Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

This lake is located about 1km from the cave entrance, has a surface area of about 100m2, surrounded by unique stalactites. What is special is that this lake is located 15m higher than the main underground river in the cave, looking like it is "hanging" on the cave wall, so it is named Floating Lake.

Cave expert Nguyen Van Uy (born in 1988), Director of Safety at Jungle Boss, shared that the chance to find Lo Lung Lake was extremely special. Previously, despite having surveyed this area many times, even swimming along the underground river right below, the team still could not discover this lake due to limited visibility.

However, during the May 2024 exploration trip, the group decided to depart earlier than previous trips. Thanks to the small temperature difference, the steam inside the cave was less dense, and visibility was clearer. At that time, they suddenly noticed a "black spot" on the other side of the cave path.

The cave expedition team surveyed the lake in a branch of Thung Cave, part of the Hung Thoong Cave system.

After searching, the group discovered a narrow path located high up, close to the cave wall, less than 1 meter wide. They conquered this narrow path and named it "Lung Trung Alley".

"The deeper we went into Lung Trung Gorge, the more surprised we were when we saw a deep, bottomless, emerald green lake that never dries up in the dry season - something rarely seen in other calcium lakes inside caves in Phong Nha - Ke Bang," Mr. Uy shared.

The special highlight of the Floating Lake is a stalactite suspended right above the water surface - a rare form of stalactite that requires many factors to form and transform.

It is known that Hung Thoong cave system is one of the most pristine places of Phong Nha - Ke Bang, discovered by local people in 2009, located deep in the strictly protected area, belonging to Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a system of million-year-old limestone mountains and primeval forests.

The Hung Thoong system includes many caves such as: Tron cave, Hung cave, Thung cave, Nightmare sinkhole... According to experts, this is a unique and very different cave system. The reason it is called Hung Thoong is because it surrounds the stream of the same name.

Jungle Boss General Director Le Luu Dung said this discovery will contribute to increasing the attraction of adventure tourism to explore Hung Thoong, a unique destination in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
