(Dan Tri) - Many students, many years after graduating, are still struggling to figure out what they need, what their strengths are, and how to win over employers.
That is the opinion of experts at the seminar "Positioning yourself and conquering employers", within the framework of the "Career journey and job connection" festival in 2024 of Hanoi National University.

Disappointed because the candidate came to the interview dressed in a shabby outfit
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Recruitment Director of Sungroup Corporation, said that with more than 20 years of experience in the field of human resources, he realized that many students still lack interview skills.
"Recently, I received a candidate's application for an interview. According to his CV (personal profile), the candidate had studied abroad and was interviewing for a position that required neatness and meticulousness. However, I was quite disappointed when the male student came with a disheveled outfit and unkempt hair," said Mr. Thanh.
According to Mr. Thanh, the reason for telling the above story is that many new graduates are not fully aware of the importance of appearance in recruitment, so they prepare quite poorly when coming to the interview.
In fact, employers secretly observe candidates in every small detail and score them right in the first meeting.
Answering a question from Dan Tri reporter about the weaknesses of new graduates in job interviews, Mr. Thanh said that the common weakness of young candidates when they first graduate is that they do not know what they want to do.
In fact, when interviewing young candidates who have just graduated, they all have a common weakness: many of them do not know what they want to do, do not have a clear career orientation to map out a development direction, and to supplement their skills.
Besides, some candidates are overconfident compared to their actual abilities. "The common point of Gen Z recently is that they are a bit impulsive, reckless, cannot stand pressure, and quickly give up when faced with difficulties," Mr. Thanh commented.

According to this expert, it is very difficult for such people to attract employers. Instead of bragging, you should focus on showing your strengths such as ability to undertake work, perseverance, working with goals...
Of course everyone in life will have twists and turns but surely at least you must have an initial direction in work.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hien, Director of Recruitment and Talent Attraction Center, SHB Bank said that in her 20 years as a recruiter, she has worked with many new graduates and found that many of them are confused about what they need and what their strengths are.
Many people struggle for a long time without shining. Some people change their choices within a few years. According to her, in reality, we cannot change forever, but must have a direction to assert ourselves in life.
The secret to impressing recruiters
According to some experts, even if you are a new candidate or do not know how to leave an impression, you should not worry too much. Just equip yourself with knowledge, skills, good attitude and some "secrets", new graduates can create a brand for themselves, leading to many recruitment opportunities.
According to Ms. Hien, there are 5 tips to help students conquer employers: First, right at the first interview, you should wear neat, professional clothes; know how to listen and remember information from the employer; only speak when necessary and speak just enough; be calm, confident, and optimistic; control your attitude during the interview, and do not "show off" too much about yourself.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, to "knock out" the employer, candidates need to base on the specific nature of the interview to have an appropriate method and prepare carefully before, during, and after the interview.
Before going to the interview, candidates need to learn about the company and the person who will interview them. Candidates can find this information through their personal Facebook or on the company's website.
When you go to an interview, you should learn about the culture, uniform (if any) and dress style appropriate to the job. This will help you choose the right outfit, accessories, hairstyle… and make yourself look the most neat.
Equally important is a calm, confident demeanor. All of these elements help you demonstrate the professionalism of a potential candidate.
When coming to the interview, candidates should bring their CV and necessary documents, bring a notebook along with a comfortable and confident spirit. Candidates should arrive on time, preferably 10-15 minutes early, and adjust their clothes.
"Some candidates came to the interview but could not show their passion for the job, this also made us fail them," Mr. Thanh said.
In particular, one experience that Mr. Thanh gave is that after the interview, the candidate should send a message or email to thank the employer. If the company assigns homework, it is best to complete it before the deadline to create a good impression.
"Career Journey and Job Connection" in 2024 attracted nearly 8,000 students inside and outside VNU with about 60 consulting and recruitment booths of 44 domestic and foreign corporations and enterprises, bringing more than 7,000 job and internship opportunities.
In his opening speech, VNU Vice President Dao Thanh Truong said the event was organized with the aim of helping students orient themselves, prepare necessary career skills, enhance their competitive advantage when entering the labor market; and keep up with employment trends and human resource recruitment requirements of organizations and businesses.
This is an opportunity for new graduates, students preparing to graduate, and students looking for jobs to search and exchange necessary information about career opportunities, recruitment processes and conditions of organizations and businesses.
