Ministry of Education and Training denies rumors about university merger plan

Information about admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology and a series of other schools that is being spread is false, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The Ministry of Education and Training said on September 25 that there was a lot of incorrect information about the arrangement and reorganization of the university education system, including school clusters in the North.

According to the information spread, the University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Industry, Electricity, Transport Technology, Mining and Geology merged into the National University of Engineering and Technology. The National University of Economics and Law was formed by the University of National Economics, Commerce, Foreign Trade, Hanoi Law, Academy of Finance...

The Ministry recommends that people be vigilant and not spread the above incorrect information.

"The Ministry of Education and Training has been assigned by the Government to develop a project to rearrange and reorganize the system of higher education institutions and is still coordinating with relevant agencies to research and evaluate the current situation before reporting the plan for the Government to consider and decide," the Ministry said.

Resolution 71 of the Politburo requires urgent arrangement and restructuring of universities; merging and dissolving substandard schools; eliminating intermediate levels; studying the merger of research institutes with universities; and transferring some schools to local management.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son said on September 18 that except for police, military and private schools, about 140 public schools will be rearranged.

Currently, the Ministry is calculating many options, such as transferring schools under central management, managed by ministries and branches to local areas; merging local schools with central schools, schools under ministries/branches with each other... Some schools will be dissolved if they are too small in scale and do not meet standards. The arrangement, according to the Minister, aims to overcome the fragmented, small-scale, and undeveloped situation.

In addition, the Ministry is calculating restructuring plans and reducing the number of units to make schools stronger and better. The Ministry will have scenarios for each school with the best plan, including personnel assignments.
