Attending the ceremony were Dr. Nguyen Ngoc An - Chairman of Vietnam Education Trade Union; leaders of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee; leaders of local departments and branches and all staff, lecturers and students of Nha Trang University (Khanh Hoa).
At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son awarded the decision to recognize Dr. Quach Hoai Nam as Rector of Nha Trang University for the 2020-2025 term.
Accordingly, the decision to recognize the Rector for the 2020-2025 term aims to ensure the regulations on personnel work and term of office of the School Council - Nha Trang University.
In his speech assigning the task, Minister Nguyen Kim Son congratulated Dr. Quach Hoai Nam. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the important contributions of Prof. Dr. Trang Si Trung - former Principal of the school in the process of building and developing Nha Trang University in recent times.
According to the Minister, Nha Trang University was approved by the Prime Minister to become a key university in the region and the whole country. Resolution 71 also clearly stated to focus on developing key universities, providing high-quality human resources, including Nha Trang University. This is the opportunity to build and develop the school commensurate with the assigned mission.
"I hope the school community understands the honor and responsibility towards the education sector and the country. From there, we will strive to improve the quality of training and scientific research of a key school associated with the mission that the school is aiming for. Teachers must join hands, be unanimous, and surpass themselves to be worthy of their position. We must aim for a multi-disciplinary, multi-field model, but must stand firmly on the foundation of strength with the keyword "sea", the Minister emphasized.
From there, the Minister suggested for the school to develop in the future: "The school needs to identify its strengths in technology, engineering, economics... associated with the sea. Look to the sea to develop a university oriented towards the sea. Must attract talent with its own identity in training. The Ministry will research and guide internal arrangements to ensure streamlining. Ensure higher autonomy, greater investment and greater direction for the school to develop".
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Quach Hoai Nam expressed: "Today is a special day, not only for me personally, but also for the teaching staff and students of Nha Trang University. The decision to recognize me as the Rector by the Minister of Education and Training is an honor, and at the same time a great responsibility before the Ministry of Education and Training - the direct governing body of the school, before Khanh Hoa province - the land that has nurtured the school for nearly half a century, before society and the school's staff, civil servants and students - where we place our trust".
Nha Trang University is a multi-disciplinary, multi-field university with a training scale of about 16,000 students, 37 undergraduate majors, 17 master's majors and 11 doctoral majors.
The school has 445 full-time lecturers, of which 41% have doctoral degrees, including 2 professors and 31 associate professors.
With its strengths in marine science and technology and fisheries, the school has established a cooperative network with more than 100 universities, research institutes and international organizations, and cooperated with more than 200 domestic and foreign enterprises.
