During the working session on the morning of September 12 at Nha Trang University (Khanh Hoa), Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized: To develop into a regional university, the school needs to link its development strategy with the key word "Sea".
Lean, multi-disciplinary, multi-field
According to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, Vietnam’s higher education is facing enormous demands and challenges, and at the same time, the Party and State have given unprecedented attention and expectations. Nha Trang University is one of the institutions prioritized for development into a regional university in the near future, with the task of modernizing and improving the quality of training.

The Minister said that universities in general must build a modern governance model, operate on a digital platform, have high autonomy and transparency. In particular, it is necessary to promote training innovation, promote scientific research, technology transfer and build a high-quality human resource team. "To develop, universities, in addition to investing in facilities, more importantly, must affirm themselves through training and research, aiming for a multi-disciplinary and multi-field model," the Minister emphasized.
Regarding Nha Trang University, the Minister affirmed that this is a school with strengths in marine technology, marine economics and fisheries. Therefore, the school needs to make efforts to develop to become a key training facility on marine-related issues in the South Central region as well as the whole country.

Regarding the planning of the network of higher education institutions, the Minister said that the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to review and possibly rearrange some schools to suit development requirements. The goal is to streamline the organization, effectiveness and efficiency. In the spirit of Resolution 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo on education and training development, universities will operate more and more streamlined and effectively.
“The Ministry will give schools greater autonomy, while also setting greater requirements and directions. This is a responsibility that goes hand in hand with rights, requiring each training institution to make strong efforts to innovate,” the Minister said.

Building member universities
Dr. Khong Trung Thang - Chairman of the Council of Nha Trang University said that the school currently trains 37 undergraduate majors, 17 master's majors and 11 doctoral majors, with a scale of about 16,000 students and 445 permanent lecturers. By 2030, the school strives to be in the international rankings, among the top universities in Southeast Asia in marine science and technology and fisheries, and at the same time achieve a high ranking in the Vietnamese university system.
According to the orientation, Nha Trang University will focus on developing training programs with international standards, promoting training according to business orders, enhancing scientific research, technology transfer, investing in facilities and digital transformation, and expanding cooperation with prestigious international schools, institutes and organizations.
Representatives of the Departments and Bureaus of the Ministry of Education and Training said that in order to develop into a regional university, Nha Trang University needs to review its apparatus in a streamlined manner, without increasing the number of staff receiving salaries from the budget. In addition, it is necessary to build member universities, formed from strong training majors related to economics and marine technology, in accordance with the needs of social development and the labor market.

Perfecting team-related policies
On the same day, Minister Nguyen Kim Son visited and encouraged the staff and lecturers of the Central Pedagogical College - Nha Trang. The school currently has 8 affiliated units with 128 officials and employees. After the 2019 Education Law took effect, the school focused on training only in the field of Preschool Education.
At the meeting, the school proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training assign an annual training target of 700 to 1,000 students to meet social needs, and consider adding a special education major; invest in upgrading facilities such as lecture halls, dormitories, and practice rooms for advanced educational methods.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged the recommendations and said that the Ministry is finalizing policies related to the teaching staff, especially in the preschool sector. The Minister also informed that the new preschool education program will be approved and piloted from the 2025-2026 school year.
