Results of Southeast Asian teams yesterday (September 20)
Thailand - Brunei: 15-1 (Group B)
Cambodia - Japan: 0-5 (Group C)
Vietnam - Hong Kong (China): 9-1 (Group E)
Timor Leste - Kyrgyzstan: 1-9 (Group F)
Malaysia - UAE: 1-0 (Group G)
In Group B, the Thai futsal team had a resounding 15-1 victory over Brunei. This was not surprising, as Thailand is a team with a very high ranking in the world (ranked 11th). At the same time, the Thai futsal team had the advantage of playing at home in Nonthaburi (Thailand).

Thailand easily topped Group B. This group included South Korea (ranked 73rd in the world) and Bahrain (ranked 69th in the world), but none of them were a match for the futsal team of the Land of the Golden Pagoda.
The team with the second biggest win among Southeast Asian teams is the Vietnam futsal team. Coach Diego Giustozzi's team (Argentinian) beat Hong Kong (China) 9-1.
The Vietnamese futsal team leads Group E. We have the same 3 points as Lebanon, but we are ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference. Lebanon beat the Chinese futsal team 2-1 in the first round of Group E.

In Group G, the Malaysian team had an important 1-0 victory over the UAE. Malaysia can hope to finish second in Group G, behind the world futsal powerhouse Iran. After that, the Malaysian team can find a play-off ticket for 7/8 second-placed teams with the best results in the qualifying round.
Some other teams in Southeast Asia suffered defeats in their first matches, including Cambodia (lost to Japan 0-5) in Group C and Timor Leste (lost to Kyrgyzstan 1-9) in Group F. However, these results were not surprising, as the aforementioned teams did not have high determination in the Asian qualifiers.
There is another very strong team in the region, Indonesia, but Indonesia did not participate in the qualifying round. The archipelago futsal team is the host team of the final round (VCK) taking place in early 2026, so Indonesia is exempted from the qualifying round.
