The need for traffic accounts
From October 1, the new regulations on unified traffic accounts for the non-stop toll collection system (ETC) will take effect nationwide. If the VETC account or other toll collection accounts have not been upgraded to this format, vehicle owners may be refused to pass through the station.
Previously, the non-stop toll collection system in Vietnam was operated by many providers such as VETC, ePass. Although more convenient than manual toll collection, having many separate accounts is inconvenient: car owners have to manage many wallets, deposit money individually and often encounter problems when passing through incompatible stations. This wastes time and affects traffic.
To overcome this, the Ministry of Transport has deployed a comprehensive solution: the formation of a unified traffic account. This is a unique identification account for each vehicle, linked to vehicle owner data, allowing seamless payment across all non-stop toll stations.
Instructions for upgrading VETC account to traffic account
For vehicle owners who already have a VETC account, upgrading the VETC account to a traffic account is very simple and can be done online. Here are the detailed steps:
- Step 1: Log in to the VETC application, select Upgrade account.
- Step 2: Check the information again and click the Upgrade button
- Step 3: Enter the OTP code sent to the login phone number
- Step 4: Enter new password and press Continue
- Step 5: Link VETC wallet and bank account: Go to Payment Link section and add bank card information. The money account part in "VETC Wallet" needs to be identified as the new traffic account, and the part displayed in "Traffic Account" is the amount according to the old payment method that will be gradually deducted until it is used up and no longer used.
All VETC or ePass vehicle owners, need to urgently upgrade your VETC account and switch to a traffic account.
