How to get a free university tuition scholarship and expert support

On the morning of October 12, the National Housing Organization Joint Stock Company (NHO) held a ceremony to award the SAL scholarship (abbreviation of the first three letters of Serve, Achieve, Lead) in Ho Chi Minh City. This scholarship was launched in 2020 with many benefits for students about to graduate from high school, from supporting university and college tuition and living expenses, to opportunities to receive training, have consultants and participate in different career opportunities.

Ms. Pham Thi Huyen Tran, Head of the Scholarship Committee, said that in 2023, 6 students from southern provinces will receive SAL scholarships. Not only does it provide financial support, the scholarship also creates conditions for candidates to work with dedicated and experienced mentors to answer and help students in many aspects of life. "Unlike money or material things, love will always stay. I hope you will continue to sow the seeds of love for others," Ms. Tran said.

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters on the sidelines of the event, Ms. Tran shared that the SAL scholarship usually opens applications from May to July, with two review rounds: application and interview. In the application round, there are 4 criteria used to evaluate candidates, respectively: academic ability (average grade 12 score of 7.0 or higher), ethics (actively participating in volunteer activities), family background (in need of financial support, priority given to special circumstances such as orphans, disabled, ethnic minorities...) and recommendation letters from teachers.

"However, we do not award scholarships in packages but will review them annually, based on criteria such as average score, English skills, frequency of participation in community activities and evaluation by advisors. All are aimed at helping students grow, both in capacity and personality, in the spirit of not requiring them to contribute to the company," Ms. Tran emphasized, adding that each year there are about 5-6 scholarships with a not too competitive level.

Ho Bac Nam, a freshman at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, is one of this year's scholarship recipients.

As a son of the remote Bay Nui region of An Giang province, Ho Bac Nam (18 years old) confided that he and his peers rarely heard about scholarship programs. "We also did not dare to think about continuing to study at university in Ho Chi Minh City due to the high cost, and I myself was no exception. Therefore, receiving a scholarship was a turning point in my life, leading me on the path of knowledge," Nam confided.

Currently, Nam is a freshman at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, studying computer science , a major that has always been at the top of the school's admissions criteria for many years. He hopes to become an "arrow" with a clear direction and goal, strongly conquering all destinations. "I also want to do everything I can and even things that seem impossible to contribute to the community and society," Nam said.

Also at the scholarship awarding ceremony, Mr. Yang Myung Chul Paul, representative of the NHO Board of Directors, acknowledged that despite facing many difficulties after the pandemic period, the company still maintains the SAL scholarship program because this is an "investment fund for the future". "You are our hope and also our dream. Hopefully, in the coming time, you will continue to push yourself to develop more and more, becoming great leaders not only in Vietnam but also in the world ," Mr. Yang said.
