Heartbreaking close-up of a school that has not opened for 10 years

Song Hong Technical and Vocational College (Nong Trang ward, Phu Tho) has been in a special situation for many years: 10 consecutive years without holding an opening ceremony.

According to school officials and teachers, the cause of the sad incident stems from the fact that the school's main campus has almost no students.

A teacher who has worked at the school since around 2000 said that during the period 2010-2015, the school taught and trained about 5,000 students each year.

According to the teacher above, every year the school organizes a bustling opening ceremony with the participation of many students, staff and teachers. However, from 2016 until now, the situation is completely opposite.

"For 10 years, the school has not held an opening ceremony. As teachers like me and my colleagues, this is very sad," a long-time teacher at the school shared.

According to VietNamNet reporters, currently, the entire school campus of about 2 hectares is "closed and locked" with no one in sight. The classrooms, practice rooms, and dormitories are locked, and weeds cover the surrounding area.

The entire school building only exists in form: the sign is still hanging, the classrooms are still there, but the lecture hall has long been devoid of the sounds of lectures and students' laughter.

Ms. Trang, a resident near the school, said that for a long time there have been no students at the school, and there is only one security guard watching over the school.

According to VietNamNet reporters, Song Hong Technical and Vocational College was formerly under the Song Hong Construction Corporation. In 2015, the school was transferred to the Ministry of Construction and in 2024, the school was transferred to the People's Committee of Phu Tho province for management.

Speaking to reporters, a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho province said that the unit officially took over and managed the Song Hong Technical and Vocational College from March 2025. Currently, the school is still facing many difficulties, so it needs time to gradually resolve them.

According to the above leader, the lack of students attending the school is the responsibility of the school leaders. However, the recruitment and vocational training of students in reality is facing many difficulties due to market demand.
