On the very first day of implementing the 2-level local government model, many people in Hanoi received calls claiming to be local police or public administration officials contacting them to inform them that they had to integrate new document information into the VNeID system. At the same time, the subjects requested to access VNeID via the link to install the software downloaded from the app store.
Calls made during the period of merging wards and communes with many changes will make many people believe and be deceived.
Phuong Liet Ward Police (Hanoi) informed and warned people to be vigilant against new tricks of scammers.
Faced with the above situation, many ward police in the area have issued widespread warnings to the ward's residents, calling on residents to be extremely vigilant.
Accordingly, the method used by the subjects is to impersonate police officers and call people to request information about their hometown, place of residence, or install software to update population data and synchronize documents.
Immediately after installing this fake software, people will have their phones taken over by the subject, and money will be transferred from bank account information and payment applications saved on the phone.
The police agency recommends that people be vigilant when receiving phone calls from strangers claiming to be police officers to notify, request additional information, and provide population data over the phone.
The Ministry of Public Security will automatically update information according to new administrative boundaries such as place of birth registration, hometown, and permanent address on the VNeID app for people.
Therefore, people should absolutely not install software and applications as requested by the subjects. In case of receiving messages and calls with signs of fraud, people should promptly report to the police to prevent and handle according to the provisions of law.
