Born in 1948, Nguyen Thu studied martial arts since her childhood. Thanks to her hard work, she joined the "Seven Little Fortunes" group taught by martial arts master Vu Chiem Nguyen and was the only female member of the group.

That year, Seven Little Fortunes brought together many famous names, including Yuen Long (Sam Hung), Yuen Lau (Jackie Chan), Yuen Biao, Yuen Kui, Yuen Wah and Yuen Thu. They took the stage name with the word "Yuan" at the beginning to show their gratitude to their master.

At 73, Nguyen Thu lives alone, but has the consolation of having two children who have grown up to be successful and filial. According to ET Today, her daughter manages a bank while her son works at the Department of Internal Affairs.
